Who we are
CloudMade was founded in 2007 to enable developers build location enabled applications and services.
Co-founder Nick Black was one of the earliest driving forces behind OpenStreetMap - the free wiki world map. Over the past years OpenStreetMap has been taken from a bedroom project to a large foundation with hundreds of thousands of contributors, spread across almost all countries in the world. With a background as a web developer and geospatial engineer building location based websites and services, Nick has a passion for servicing an ever growing community of developers, ranging from entrepreneurs building the next great mobile app, to developers in large companies working on the latest handset, satellite navigation device or fitness product.
Juha Christensen, who serves as Chairman and CEO, bas been building mobile operating systems for most of his career. He founded Symbian, went on to lead the charge in the early days of Windows Mobile, ran part of Macromedia, helped build the largest System Integrator in the mobile industry (Teleca) and helped create a success out of Trolltech and Qt, which is now being incorporated into the next big operating system to hit the world, MeeGo. Today he is as passionate about great user experiences as ever, focusing his time on helping developers, large and small, build great products and services utilizing the CloudMade platform.
Our deep involvement with open source and community based projects is complemented by a significant amount of experience within the mobile and internet industries, drawing upon the expertise of our CTO, James Brown, together with our VP Community, Christian Petersen, and Senior Director of Product Management, Cragg Nilson.

CloudMade is backed by two of the most prominent names in venture capital: Greylock, who are behind successes like Facebook, LinkedIn, Pandora, Red Hat, Gowalla and DoubleClick and Sunstone Capital, who have invested in companies like Layar, Asetek, Issuu, Prezi, Trunk and Neotechnology.

CloudMade and OpenStreetMap
CloudMade are here to make using OpenStreetMap data easier and more accessible. We support OpenStreetMap by sponsoring mapping parties, providing public relations and legal support, hosting developer events and contributing to the OSM code base. We want OpenStreetMap to have the best geo data in the world and we think the best way to achieve this is to support OSM and the OpenStreetMap Foundation as independent organisations.
