We're Ready to Believe You
Hey--
Holy crap; what a week. Sorry for the sudden drop off in posting, but Monday morning I headed to New York to make a complete fool of myself on the streets of New York and in font of one of my childhood idols. Want to watch the craziness?
Yup; I got to dress as a Ghostbusters and meet Dan Aykroyd. It was everything I thought it would be. He was super-nice, funny, and cool with our "surprise" entrance idea. Major props have to be given to IGN Video Producer Kyle Watson for coming out east with me and following me with the camera and making sure the video made sense as we were shooting it.
The trip overall was fast and busy (all of that was shot on Tuesday, which is also when I needed to see all three versions of the game), but it was a great time. I was a bit surprised, though -- I expected to either be cheered or heckled on the streets of New York by passerbys, but they pretty much ignored me. Only at the New York Public Library did a crowd gather to watch Kyle and I work, and they really only asked for photos with me when Kyle went off to shoot B-roll by himself and left me on the steps. There was one guy outside the firehouse who had to have been on something, though. Kyle was shooting from across the street, so I was just by myself on the street corner in front of the firehouse in my Ghostbusters outfit. The guy crossed towards me and said "You almost look like a Ghostbuster standing out here." He then passed, took a few more steps, and turned to say "Wait! You are a Ghostbuster!" Now, I'm not a citizen of New York, but I'd love to know what worker/department has a uniform so close to that of the Ghostbusters that a right-minded person wouldn't think the Proton Pack or plastic PKE meter pushed me past the "almost" border.
Hell yeah , schwag!
So, yeah. Great trip. I only had one out-of-body experience and it was after Dan had come in for a roundtable with a bunch of journalists. He began speaking, and I realized I was a row back from him and hearing his distinctive voice without the use of a speaker for the first time.
So, what else did we miss in my absence? Well, my shoes sold on eBay for $120. Yes, that's a crazy amount, but it's definitely cool. The winners are a pair of brothers who go by the nicknames Magenta and Jandro. Seem like good guys. Thanks for supporting the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, guys. The shoes (and maybe some cool pack-ins) should be to you soon.
Now, I'm going to play videogames for three straight days.

Jak and Daxter Fallout
Hey--
I'll be the first to admit that I don't understand what Sony is thinking half of the time -- i.e. no headset packed in with the PS3, the mere existence of Home, it's foot-dragging with implementing Trophies, the PS3's price, etc. However, I was pretty excited to get to see Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier at GDC. A new platformer that continues the story of Sony's homeboys, Lost Frontier will be for the PSP and PS2.
Sure, the decision not to jump to the PS3 could be considered odd, but I didn't think much of it… until they announced the embargo for coverage on the game: April 1, 2009.
Again, this is a real PSP/PS2 game. I have seen it. My preview will be up at 3 p.m. on the respective sites. Still, once I got that embargo date, I predicted that the fans would be rabid and pissed and mean.
I was right…
Ouch.
