As the first phase of Rise S12 nears completion, Home Group invites new residents to attend a leasehold clinic.

Rise S12 is a new development of two, three and four bedroom houses which forms part of a wider regeneration of the Sheffield S12 postcode area.

The site looks east towards Woodhouse, giving sweeping views of the Shire Brook Valley from many of the properties' upper floors.

New homeowners are welcomed along to share a coffee and have an informal chat about how they’re settling in, with the Home Group team on hand to answer any questions about the homes, their leases and charges.

The clinic will be held on Thursday, September 22 on a drop-in basis from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at 2 Newhill Lane, the house situated just behind the site office on Silkstone Road.

Well, if you haven’t booked your free meal for two at the Lescar you really are missing a treat!

I dragged my friend Adam along (obviously kicking & screaming at the prospect of free food) this evening to sample the new menu. Meat, fish & vegetarian options all sounded mouth watering, with the additional specials menu just to make the decision that bit more tricky. We finally ordered the two soups of the day, carrot and coriander for him & the interesting but potentially odd combination of watercress and pear for me.

As we sipped our drinks and waited for our starters we stopped ogling other peoples delicious looking meals for just long enough to notice the new decor, a fresh look to the back room which normally plays host to the Little Last Laugh comedy night on Thursday evenings (also well worth checking out). In comparison though, with a lick of paint & some rearranging of decor and furniture the room was barely recognisable as the usually packed to the rafters LLL room and had quite the little bistro feel to it.

John, our server, arrived quickly with our soups, checking once again we had everything we wanted and leaving us to tuck into our generous portions with what can only be described as a giant wedge of bread. My doubts about a pears ability to work with watercress vanished rapidly as I worked my way through my starter, nods of approval from the other side of the table indicated equal success for the carrot and coriander.

Mains, the vegetarian special for me of Wensleydale tart with asparagus, mushroom and pea on a beetroot and potato salad, for Adam slow roast pork belly, roasted pear, bubble and squeak with Aspall cyder sauce. Once again I made a tentative start on what seemed to be a very strange mix of ingredients on my plate & once again I was left wanting to mug the chef for his recipes...or just steal him and have him installed in my kitchen.

Adams verdict: “The best meal out I’ve had in years!”

So thank you Lescar, for your delicious food. Thank you John, for the warm welcome and great advice. I’m sure we’ll be back again soon!

Police have been called out once again today to the Scowerdons estate to investigate multiple forced entries.

The estate is now largely made up of empty, boarded up houses awaiting demolition and is as such left vulnerable to this type of crime. Whilst the properties are mostly empty there is a concern about fires being set, potentially causing huge amounts of damage to the long rows of houses.

Local residents are asked to keep an eye out and advised to contact the police if they do see or hear anything suspicious.

Building work has just begun to create a new unit at Parkway retail park.

The plot, beside Home Bargains and opposite Carphone Warehouse is to become a new Iceland store.

Previously S2 residents would have had to travel at least 4 miles to get to their closest Iceland.
