Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp., the third-largest cable television company in the United States, announced Tuesday it has agreed to buy Midwest Sports Channel from CBS/Viacom Inc.
Home Team Sports, which serves the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., metropolitan areas, also was part of the deal, which industry sources said had a pricetag of about $150 million. The sale is expected to close by the end of the year.
"It's a positive development," said MSC vice president and general manager Steve Woelfel, whose network serves Minnesota, Wisconsin, most of the Dakotas and northern Iowa and has more than 2.8 million subscribers. "It removes any ownership anxiety, and Comcast is a strong company. …
