Brainstorming is a group creativity technique that encourages participants to spontaneously list out ideas without overthinking them. The term is used as a catch-all phrase for any activity that quickly lists out ideas. The strategy behind brainstorming is that ideas should be allowed to flow out in an unrestrained way without fear of criticism. This allows for seemingly far fetched ideas to surface.
Brainstorming is designed to be fast and flowing. In many cases, good ideas surface when people are in a state of flow that allows the imagination to run wild.
Use
Brainstorming achieves little on its own besides a large unedited list of ideas. It is typically used as a starting point for group decision making or problem solving.
