We are pleased to announce that the Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) has attained its first impact factor for the 2025 citation year: 2.3.

We are pleased to announce that the Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) has achieved its 2025 CiteScore: 2.6, ranking 245 out of 597 journals in the Surgery category and 177 out of 340 journals in the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine category. This milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to publishing impactful research in the field.

JSS Annual Report 2025

We are pleased to present the 2025 Annual Report of Journal of Spine Surgery. Highlights from this year’s report include:

JSS has published 117 manuscripts, among which there are 54 Original Articles and 18 Review Articles. The pageviews of JSS have increased steadily, with a total of 337,657 hits.

Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) to Accelerate Publication, Adopts Monthly Frequency from January 2026

The Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS), an open access, peer-reviewed publication in the field, today announced a significant enhancement to its publishing model. To better serve the global spine surgery community and accommodate a rising volume of high-quality submissions, JSS will transition from quarterly to monthly publication, effective January 2026.

This strategic decision underscores the journal's rapid growth and influence since its launch in December 2019. The increased frequency is a direct response to the sustained support from authors and the academic community, ensuring that pivotal, practice-changing research reaches readers and practitioners with minimal delay after acceptance.

AME and Wolters Kluwer aim to expand access to global medical research through new collaboration

The agreement broadens the reach of nearly 50 Open Access titles, contributing globally to over 5,000 articles

October 2, 2025 — Wolters Kluwer Health announced a new collaboration with AME Publishing Company, an Open Access publisher specializing in medical journals and books, headquartered in Hong Kong, China.

JSS is officially indexed by Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)

On August 5, 2025, a confirmation letter reached the editorial office of Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) that the journal met the selection criteria necessary to be included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). Articles published in JSS after 2023, beginning with 9(1), will be included in this prestigious database (Figure 1). JSS will receive its first impact factor (IF) in June 2026.

In 2026, JSS reviewers continue to make outstanding contributions to the peer review process. They demonstrated professional effort and enthusiasm in their reviews and provided comments that genuinely help the authors to enhance their work.
