This is an iteration issue that tracks improvements across DataViews, DataViewsPicker, DataForm, and the Field API planned for WordPress 7.2. It's a live issue: plans and ongoing work will be consolidated as we progress. Subscribe for updates.

Extensibility

This is our major focus. Continue the work started by the view config API.

#78647 Connectors: proposal for a PHP-side field registry for connector configuration

I chatted with Jorge about this one. He shared the goal would be to have (some parts of) #74865 shipped so that we could use it under the hood to register the connectors via PHP, ala:
