National variations of the English language have been widely discussed previously:
|
To report an error in content currently or imminently to appear on Main Page, use the appropriate section below. Reports should contain:
- Where is the error? An exact quotation using {{!xt}} of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible using {{xt}}.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 02:16 on 9 August 2026) and cannot be adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Actual errors only. Failures of subjective criteria such as taste or interestingness, or failure to divert enough DYK readers to articles that aren't new or recently improved, are not errors.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

[edit]Errors with "In the news"
[edit]The Thailand school shooting item probably should not link to Debsirin School in the blurb, because Debsirin Nonthaburi School, where the incident occurred, only shares the name as part of the school network but otherwise is a completely separate school. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:56, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- The list of network schools is on that article, so it makes sense to link to that article. But the link can be more specific to that section. Masem (t) 13:07, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- At the very least the misleading wording needs to be changed. If we want to retain mention of the school's name, it should be given with a piped link as
Debsirin Nonthaburi School, Thailand
. --Paul_012 (talk) 13:30, 8 August 2026 (UTC) - Also, I'll note that I just removed the mention of the shooting from the Debsirin School article, since it's not relevant to the topic of that article. --Paul_012 (talk) 13:44, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

Errors in "Did you know ..."
[edit]As I write, "Did you know" on the main page currently says that the earliest predecessors of U.S. Route 101 in California were 16th-century "royal roads" built by the Spanish?
. How can this be? Early Spanish explorers traveled along the California coast in ships and established no settlements and built no roads. The earliest Spanish settlements in what is now California, including San Diego, were created by the Portola Expedition in 1769-1770. That's the 18th century, not the 16th century. Cullen328 (talk) 04:43, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Nebulous2357, Cl3phact0, Beta Beta Beta, and Crisco 1492:
Pulled for a couple of reasons. First, to answer cullen's question, the 16th-century royal roads were in Spain, not California. The source discusses them as predecessors to the El Camino Real in terms of builder and style, but the royal roads in Spain were not literally the same paths. Second, while the source discusses those royal roads (and later imitators in New Spain) as a predecessor to the El Camino Real, and mentions that a segment of the El Camino Real became U.S. 101, putting those together to claim that the New Spain royal roads were the predecessors of U.S. 101 is a biiit attenuated. Maybe there's a clearer connection made in the source that I'm missing, but that's where I'm at right now. No prejudice against restoring a hook that resolves these concerns, as long as the corrections don't make it fail DYKINT. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 05:19, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- Apologies if I bodged something at review stage. What about
... that the 16th-century "royal roads" in Spain were predecessors of U.S. Route 101 in California?
or... that parts of U.S. Route 101 in California were modelled after 16th-century "royal roads" in Spain?
-- Cl3phact0 (talk) 05:43, 8 August 2026 (UTC) - Alternatively, we could use the ALT3 hook from the nomination
...that U.S. Route 101 in California will host the world's largest wildlife crossing?
-- Cl3phact0 (talk) 06:44, 8 August 2026 (UTC)- @Cl3phact0: - I'd prefer the second one you suggested for a couple of reasons. First of all, a "predeccessor highway" usually refers to a highway that existed in roughly the footprint of a later one, and was superceded by such road. Examples include US Routes that roughly parallel Interstate Highways. The last one in my opinion borders on WP:CRYSTAL because infrastructure projects often get canceled, modified, and delayed, and often take many years to materialize. Bneu2013 (talk) 18:37, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- I wasn't the nominator nor did I draft any of the hooks. I'm simply trying to help resolve the situation, and respectfully defer to your judgement as to what the right solution is to achieve the best outcome. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 19:45, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
