Thanks, Moses Roth, Chris Traganos, Emerson Sklar for hosting yesterday's Q&A about the new Amazon Developer Hackathon ($138K cash-prize-heavy). My personal key takeaways for the Alexa+ track are below for those who can't afford to rewatch the whole thing on YT. ▪️ Q&A recording: https://lnkd.in/gRc24JiB ▪️ Hackathon: https://lnkd.in/g_7qdmtZ ▪️ Rules: https://lnkd.in/gNW4eJqY ▪️ Devpost Discord: https://discord.gg/devpost Hackathon runs until 23 October 2026 with $138,000 in cash across Fire TV, Alexa+, Ring and Bee, and the Alexa+ track pays $25,000 cash plus $15,000 in AWS credits for first place, for an MCP server, an Agent Skill, or a simulated Alexa+ experience. My takeaways from the session, with the Alexa+ track in focus, so you don't have to watch the recording: ➡️ Amazon calls the Alexa+ track the "MCP prize" and an "ideation project." Add-ons are coming, are not live yet, and will run on the open MCP standard, so Alexa+ not being live in your country yet does not affect the track. ➡️ Alexa+ and Fire TV are the two priority prizes. ➡️ The demo question: ask your coding agent for a web mockup of Alexa+, connect your MCP server to it, and show that conversation in the video. ➡️ For ideas, look at the most popular MCP servers and at things people want to transact on without visiting a site. ➡️ What stands out to them: a customer talking to an agent, feedback like rich cards or a purchase in place, a problem from your own life, and a demo that runs. ➡️ Judges are mainly product and engineering leads from the four Amazon device teams. Judging runs to 20 November, winners are announced at re:Invent, and track winners get review sessions with the product team. ➡️ The product teams want the friction logs. Entrants keep their IP, and Amazon is looking for apps to feature. ➡️ Other tracks: the Amazon Devices Builder Tools MCP server installs with one command into your coding agent, Vega needs a Mac or Ubuntu, Ring has an emulator, and Bee works with the phone app and CLI. ➡️ Alexa+ SDK and API updates might be announced during the eight weeks, and every participant can request $150 in AWS credits, one code per account. Full detail is in the carousel. Alexa+ questions go to Amazon's Alexa+ evangelism lead in the Devpost Discord.
