Understanding your AI usage

Understanding Canva's AI tools will help you maximize your monthly AI allowance, and design with confidence. There are two types of AI tools in Canva and Affinity, and access depends on your plan:

• AI design tools: These tools are included with your plan and don’t use up your shared allowance; fair use limits apply.
• AI tools that share a single, monthly AI allowance: These tools fall into categories based on how much AI allowance they use:
  • Standard AI tools
  • Premium AI tools
  • Ultra AI tools

Your monthly AI allowance determines how much you can use AI tools each month. Higher plans include more AI allowance. Learn more about each AI tool type and how much AI usage your plan includes below.

Some of Canva’s most popular AI features are included with your plan outside your AI usage allowance; fair use limits apply. These include tools like:

• Canva AI (text)
• Magic Write
• Photo and Video Animations
• AI Voice
• On-device ML tools in Affinity

Standard AI tools are part of your shared AI allowance. AI tools in this tier use the least amount of AI allowance. Standard AI tools include:

• Magic Formulas
• Magic Write for SEO

Premium AI tools are part of your shared AI allowance. AI tools in this tier are more advanced, and use more of your AI allowance for image, video, interactives, design generation, and more. Premium AI tools include:

• Magic Layers
• Generate a design with Canva AI
• Create an image with Canva AI
• Build interactive experiences with Canva Code
• Generate elements with Canva AI (shapes, 3D, charts, forms, and more)
• Music and Sound Effect Generator
• Form generator
• Premium Al tools in Affinity, including Generative Fill, Expand, Edit, Generate Images and Vectors. Premium AI tools in Affinity are not available to Canva Free accounts.

Ultra AI tools are part of your shared AI allowance. AI tools in this tier use the latest cutting-edge AI models, and use the most AI allowance. Ultra AI tools include:

• Conversational design with Canva AI 2.0
• Create a video clip with Canva AI
• Create an image with Canva AI

Availability of your AI tiers and AI tools depends on your plan. Your shared AI allowance can also be used with AI features available in Affinity. See the plan comparison table on our pricing page for full details.

The size of your shared AI allowance and your level of access to each type of AI tools (Standard, Premium, Ultra AI) depend on your plan.

All AI tools share the same AI allowance. The ranges below show you what’s possible if:

• You only use one type of AI tool (either Standard, or Premium, or Ultra - not a mix), and
• Your prompt or task is simple, and
• You use an AI tool that uses the least power of AI tools in its category

When you use more advanced AI tools and prompts frequently, your actual usage will typically be on the lower end of the estimated ranges.

• Canva Free: Up to 200 uses for Standard AI tools, OR up to 20 uses for Premium AI tools. No access to Ultra AI tools.
• Canva Pro/Teams/Nonprofits: Up to 2,000 uses for Standard AI tools, OR up to 200 uses for Premium AI tools, OR up to 20 uses for Ultra AI tools
• Canva Business: Up to 4,000 uses for Standard AI tools, OR up to 400 uses for Premium AI tools, OR up to 40 uses for Ultra AI tools
• Canva Enterprise: Up to 4,000 uses for Standard AI tools, OR up to 400 uses for Premium AI tools, OR up to 40 uses for Ultra AI tools
• Canva Education - Up to 2,000 uses for Standard AI tools, OR up to 200 uses for Premium AI tools, OR up to 20 uses for Ultra AI tools

For 1-day and 1-week plans, these monthly ranges are pro-rated and reset on your billing date.

Your AI tools share a single monthly allowance, with some tools using more of it than others. The complexity of your prompt or task will also influence how much AI allowance is used. The ranges provided above are estimates. More complex prompts and tasks use more of your monthly AI allowance, so the number of uses you get will vary.

• Standard AI tools: Magic Formulas can use less AI allowance than Magic Write for SEO
• Premium AI tools: Style Match can use less AI allowance than creating interactives with Canva Code
• Ultra AI tools: Generating and iterating on multi-page designs through conversation with Canva AI 2.0 will use more AI allowance than text-to-image

Canva AI 2.0 works as a conversational design partner that can take multiple editing and design actions autonomously when prompted. Because of this, it uses more AI power than single-prompt features.

It uses your shared AI allowance. The amount of AI allowance used depends on the task. Your usage may be higher based on:

• Designs referenced: When you include designs in a task, larger files use more AI allowance. For example, a 40-slide presentation will use more than a 5-slide presentation.
• Task complexity: More complex tasks require more steps, which increases AI allowance usage.
• Tools used: Tasks that use multiple AI tools consume more allowance than those that use fewer tools.
• Models used: More complex tasks or higher quality outputs may use more advanced AI models, than simpler tasks. The more powerful the AI tool, the more AI allowance used.

For Standard, Premium, and Ultra AI tools, Canva will notify you as you near and reach your allowance limit. For ways to increase your AI allowance, see the How do I get more AI access? below.

You’ll get a notification in Canva as you approach your AI allowance limit, so you can plan ahead.

On paid plans, if you reach your limit for premium AI features, you’ll see short pauses between generations. Once it ends, you can continue by entering your prompt again.

If you’ve reached your limit, below are some of your options for getting more AI access.

• Canva Free: Upgrade to a premium plan like Canva Pro or Canva Business, for more AI access.
• Canva Pro and Canva Teams: Upgrade your plan for more AI access, or purchase AI Pass as an add-on to your subscription. If you hit your limit, you can keep using AI tools with with short pauses between tasks.
• Canva for Business: Purchase AI Pass as an add-on to your subscription. If you hit your limit, you can keep using AI tools with short pauses between tasks.
• Enterprise and Canva Education: If you hit your limit, you can keep using premium AI features with short pauses between tasks.
• Canva for Nonprofits: Purchase AI Pass as an add-on to your subscription. If you hit your limit, you can keep using premium AI features with short pauses between tasks.

Otherwise, wait for your allowance to reset.

Your AI allowance can also be used to generate designs with Canva AI within AI assistants that are connected to Canva. AI tools that you can generate designs within include ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and more. Learn more about connecting Canva to AI assistants to generate designs.

The Apps Marketplace is your gateway to connecting Canva with your favorite tools; import content, manage tasks, publish anywhere, and design with your data.

Generations made through third-party AI apps in the Marketplace aren’t included in Canva and Affinity’s monthly premium AI allowance. Third-party subscriptions or limits may apply.

Since AI features from third-party apps don't use your Canva AI allowance, they have their own separate limits or subscriptions. If you have questions about an app's usage, you first need to identify who created it.

2. Select the

3. Look for the Created by information.

• If a different name appears, the app is made by a third party. To ask about their specific usage limits or subscription requirements, select Get help with this app from the
