Diabetes

A person with diabetes is called a diabetic.

Diabetes could be:

• Type 1 diabetes
  • Diabetes mellitus (type 1, T1D) - autoimmune disease affecting the pancreas, hormones, which usually requires insulin injections
• Type 2 diabetes
  • Diabetes mellitus (type 2, T2D) - usually caused by diet or obesity
• Diabetes insipidus - caused by the hormone vasopressin. Causes increased thirst and urination

• Latent autoimmune diabetes (LADA)
• Maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY)
