Five years ago, we started with a simple observation: The world does not happen in text. It happens in motion. At the time, this was a contrarian thesis. If AI is going to understand the physical world, it needs a native representation of video. Not a language model looking at a few sampled frames. Not metadata wrapped around footage. Not captions standing in for perception. Today, I’m excited to share that TwelveLabs has raised $100 million in Series B funding, co-led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and NAVER Ventures, with participation from Amazon, Radical Ventures, Korea Investment Partners, Index Ventures, Quadrille Capital, and Red Bull Ventures. A caption can say a glass broke. Video preserves the seconds before and after: the hand moving, the object falling, the sound of impact, the reaction that follows. Causality lives in sequence. Video is that sequence. And yet most of the world’s video remains dark matter to machines. The richest record of reality we have is still largely outside the semantic layer that modern AI systems can search, reason over, and use. We have spent the last five years changing that. We built models native to video, designed to understand what is seen, heard, spoken, and happening across time. That work became Marengo, our embedding model, and Pegasus, our video language model. But models alone are not enough. Useful intelligence needs memory. It needs to compound over time. It needs to reason across what it has seen and turn that understanding into action. That is why we are building a Video Cognition System: perception, memory, and reasoning in one architecture. A system to make every second of video addressable, searchable, and usable by software and agents. This round marks the next phase of that work. We are moving from proving that video-native models can understand the world to building the infrastructure and applications that make video intelligence ubiquitous. I’m deeply grateful to our team, customers, partners, and investors who believed in this thesis early and continue to help us push it forward. We are hiring researchers, engineers, product builders, and operators who believe the next frontier of AI will not be limited to what humans have written down. The road to Video Superintelligence continues here. Link to our Series B blog: https://lnkd.in/g3Jz6uDx #TwelveLabs #VideoAI

Today, we’re announcing our Series B. 🥳 This milestone reflects both the momentum behind TwelveLabs and the broader shift happening in video intelligence. Most of the world’s data lives in video, yet most of it is still difficult to search, understand, and put to work. We built TwelveLabs to change that. Over the last several years, we’ve developed video understanding models purpose-built for video, supported customers running them in production, and expanded what video intelligence can unlock across industries. Now we’re building toward what comes next: a full-stack intelligence system for video. We’re grateful to New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and NAVER Ventures for co-leading the round, and to Amazon, Radical Ventures, Korea Investment Partners, Index Ventures, Quadrille Capital, and Red Bull Ventures for joining us. Thank you to our customers, partners, investors, and team for helping us reach this point. The road to Video Superintelligence starts here. #TwelveLabs #VideoAI #MultimodalAI

  • Before Pride Month wraps, we wanted to share a few moments from our recent Pride Picnic at the TwelveLabs San Francisco office. Our teams brought color-themed picnic spreads, a lot of creativity, and some very strong opinions about presentation - with the Orange team taking home the win for best arrangement 🍊 A great afternoon of food, creativity, and a little friendly competition. #TwelveLabs #VideoAI

  • Your video library is overflowing. Thousands of assets. Everything tagged. And still, finding the exact moment that matters can feel impossible. That's the ceiling of metadata-only indexing. Tags capture what someone thought to write down. They don't capture what's actually happening on screen. TwelveLabs indexes what's inside the video - faces, speech, actions, objects, and more - so your team can find the specific broadcast clip, the product shot, the compliance risk, the b-roll you need. Not just videos tagged "interview." Just describe what you're looking for. No clunky folders. No limited tags. No guessing. The value of your video library depends on being able to find the right moment when it matters. What does your current video search actually look like? 👀 #TwelveLabs #VideoAI

  • Your archive team knows what's in your footage. Your licensing team has a hunch. Your MAM has whatever someone typed in manually five years ago. None of those three answers match - and none of them are searchable. The organizations moving fastest right now on licensing, AI training data, and content syndication aren't the ones with the biggest archives. They're the ones who can actually answer the question: "What do we have, and where is it?" That's what AI-native indexing changes. And it's what we're breaking down on June 24th: the economics, the pipeline, and real results. Register here 👉 https://shorturl.at/sC4gh Backlight Cloudfirst.io AWS for M&E #TwelveLabs #VideoAI

  • Most streaming ad decisions still happen around the video, not inside it. An ad server can know the campaign rules, frequency caps, audience segments, and available demand. But the actual moment where the ad appears is often treated like an empty slot in a stream. That is the gap contextual advertising was supposed to close. Our latest think piece from Tom Koch makes the case for owning your video intelligence layer. For publishers, broadcasters, FAST platforms, and advertising partners, the next step is not more metadata. It is scene-level intelligence that understands what is happening across visuals, speech, sound, motion, and time, then translates that understanding into decisionable ad signals. With TwelveLabs, video becomes queryable, contextual, and monetizable. Marengo encodes the video. Pegasus reasons across scenes. The outputs can map into IAB taxonomies, support brand suitability decisions, and connect to real ad-tech workflows. The future of contextual advertising belongs to teams that can sell understood moments, not just impressions. Read the piece: https://lnkd.in/g36VVVUe ⬅️

  • Your campaign results, audience segments, and spend are all in Snowflake. Your video library isn't doing much of anything. 👀 We're bringing Marengo, our multimodal video understanding model, natively into the Snowflake AI Data Cloud. Media and advertising teams can now run semantic search on video alongside the structured data they already trust. That means connecting what's actually in your video - on-screen elements, audio, pacing, scene-level signals - to performance data that already lives in Snowflake. No separate pipeline, no data egress, no integration project standing between your content and the questions you want to ask of it.
