Privacy statement
This Privacy Statement explains how Hornet AS ("Hornet", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data ("Personal Data") in connection with the hornet.dev website (the "Site"). It applies to visitors to the Site, subscribers to our updates, registrants for our events, and those who contact us, regardless of location. It does not cover Personal Data processed within our products and services, which is governed by the agreements and data processing terms applicable to those services.
We are committed to protecting the privacy of the individuals whose Personal Data we process. We apply the standards of the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (the "GDPR") as our global baseline, extending the same core rights to everyone who uses the Site regardless of where they live, while also honouring any additional rights granted under other applicable laws. Hornet AS is the controller of the Personal Data described in this statement.
Information we collect
We collect Personal Data in the following ways:
Information you provide to us. When you subscribe to our updates, we collect your email address. If you contact us or request a demo or meeting, we collect the details you choose to provide, such as your name, business email, company, and the contents of your message. When you register for one of our events, typically through a third-party event platform, we collect the registration details you provide (such as your name, email, and company) to organise and run the event and to communicate with you about it; that platform may also handle this data under its own privacy notice.
Information we collect automatically. When you visit the Site, our systems automatically record limited technical information, including your IP address, which we retain for a limited period and use to operate, secure, and measure traffic to the Site. When you submit a form, your IP address is collected as part of the submission and shared with our customer relationship management provider; it is used to record the submission and to help protect the Site against spam and abuse. We also collect aggregated, non-identifying statistics about how the Site is used (such as pages visited, referring site, country, and browser type), as described under "Cookies and analytics" below.
Information about your organisation. As our communications are directed at a professional audience, where you sign up with a work email address we may look up publicly available information about the organisation associated with your email domain — such as its industry, size, and location — from a business-data provider, and record it against your details to assess whether Hornet is relevant to your work. Where you sign up with a personal email address we do not do this; instead we may invite you to tell us about your role and organisation. We limit this to business and organisational information, do not seek or infer special categories of personal data, and do not build a profile of your private life. You may ask us about the sources relating to you, and you may object to this processing at any time (see "Your rights").
How we use your information
We use Personal Data for the following purposes:
- To send you updates: to provide the news, product updates, and other communications you requested when subscribing.
- To respond to you: to respond to your enquiries and to arrange and conduct any meetings or demonstrations you request.
- To understand and tailor our communications: to understand our professional audience, assess whether Hornet is relevant to you and your organisation, and tailor our communications accordingly. We do this by matching the details we hold against business and professional information to gauge relevance. This may involve a degree of profiling, but it does not produce legal or similarly significant effects on you, and you may object at any time.
- To measure and improve the Site: to understand how the Site is used and to improve it.
- To keep the Site secure: to protect the Site against spam, abuse, and other security threats.
Legal bases for processing
Under the GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent: for sending you marketing updates when you subscribe. You may withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: for understanding our professional audience, tailoring our communications, supplementing contact details with business and professional information, organising and running our events, and measuring, improving, and securing the Site. We weigh these interests against your rights and freedoms, and you may object at any time.
- Legal obligation: where we are required to process or disclose Personal Data in order to comply with the law.
Cookies and analytics
We use a privacy-focused analytics provider to understand how the Site is used. This analytics does not use cookies, does not collect or store Personal Data, and does not track you across websites or over time. The statistics we receive are aggregated and cannot be used to identify you.
How we share your information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your Personal Data.
We disclose Personal Data only to the following categories of recipient:
- Service providers that process Personal Data on our behalf, including email delivery, event registration, customer relationship management, and website analytics. These providers are bound by contract to safeguard Personal Data and to use it solely to provide services to us. We can provide a current list of these providers on request.
- Authorities and advisers, where we are required to disclose Personal Data by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or where disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hornet, our users, or the public.
- Acquirers, in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this statement.
International data transfers
Some of our service providers are located outside the EEA, including in the United States. Where we transfer Personal Data outside the EEA, we put appropriate safeguards in place, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or transfers to providers covered by an applicable adequacy mechanism. You may request a copy of these safeguards by contacting us at privacy@hornet.dev.
Data retention
We retain Personal Data for as long as you remain a subscriber, or for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this statement and to comply with our legal obligations. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every email, or request removal by contacting us directly. On such a request, we will delete your Personal Data from our active systems, unless retention is required by law. Business and professional information we obtain to enrich your record is deleted if you object or unsubscribe, and is reviewed periodically for continued relevance.
Your rights
We extend the following rights to everyone who uses the Site, regardless of where you live. To exercise any of them, please contact us at privacy@hornet.dev.
- Access: to request a copy of the Personal Data we hold about you, including the sources from which we obtained it.
- Rectification: to request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure: to request that we delete your Personal Data.
- Restriction: to request that we limit how we process your Personal Data in certain circumstances.
- Portability: to receive your Personal Data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Objection: to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including the supplementing of your contact details and any related profiling.
- Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, to withdraw it at any time.
- Lodge a complaint: with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU/EEA country of your residence or workplace. In Norway, this is the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, www.datatilsynet.no).
Children's privacy
The Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Data security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the Personal Data we process. While we take care to protect your Personal Data, no method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this statement
We may update this Privacy Statement from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated statement on this page and revise the "Last updated" date below. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
