From the course: Industry Primer for Insurance: Core Foundations

Introduction

Picture yourself in your first discovery session with a property insurer. The CFO mentions a combined ratio above 100 and asks how investment income affects the overall profitability picture. You understand the words, but not yet the business meaning behind them. An insurance knowledge gap can quickly become a credibility gap. This course is designed to help you avoid that moment. My name is Martyna Prędziuch. I have 10 years of insurance-related experience, eight years in insurance back office operations and two years as a project manager delivering CRM solutions for insurance companies. I have worked close to the operational processes, documentation, customer data, internal workflows and technology needs that shape how insurance organizations function in practice. This experience has shown me that industry fluency is not just about knowing terminology. It is about understanding how insurance organizations think, operate, manage risk, and make decisions. That is what helps me ask better questions and build credibility from the beginning. Welcome to Core Foundations of Insurance. By the end of this course, you will be able to speak the language of insurance accurately, from combined ratio to risk-based capital, without defaulting to generic business language. Distinguish between subsegments, understand business models, and interpret core KPIs like the loss ratio, expense ratio, and combined ratio. Navigate regulatory conversations and recognize the signals that indicate demand for consulting. Connect industry knowledge directly to consulting opportunity areas where you create measurable client value. I am looking forward to working through this with you. Let us build the foundation you need to understand insurance conversations, ask better questions, and engage with insurance clients with confidence and credibility.
