youngest and only surviving brother and heir [to John Berkeley, 3rd Baron of Stratton].
Master of the Rolls 20 June 1696 for Life.
Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 20 Sep. 1710
First Commissioner for trade and the plantations to Geo. I
He married Frances [Temple] sister to his brother's wife, youngest daughter of Sir John Temple by Jane daughter of Sir Abraham Yarner. She [Frances] died in childbed 16 July 1707 and was buried at Twickenham the 21st. He [William] died at his seat at Bruton, Somerset 24 March 1740/1 and was buried there. Will dated 2 June 1737, proved 20 April 1741.

His will names the following children: [5]
Charles Berkeley - younger son and executor
John Berkeley - eldest son and heir apparent
Says he has four daughters, but only names:
Jane Berkeley - Eldest daughter
Desired to be buried in Twickenham or Bruton whichever he is closest to.
Victoria County History for Somerset [6] names the two of the other daughters as Barbara (in 1772 the widow of John Trevanion) and Frances.
According to William's memorial in Bruton parish church, Somerset, he died on his 70th birthday, which makes his date of birth 24 March 1671. He was the youngest child of Sir John Berkeley, 1st Baron of Stratton and his wife Lady Christian Berkeley, formerly Riccard.
William died on 24 March 1741 and was buried on 28 March at St Mary the Virgin parish church, Bruton, Somerset. [7]
