Motivation
[edit]Minfin is a useful and widely used financial database in Ukraine. It provides up-to-date information about banks, non-bank financial institutions, and insurance companies, and also hosts the largest database of user reviews in this sector. Adding a Minfin ID property will allow linking Wikidata items about financial organizations to their authoritative Minfin profiles, improving verifiability, data integration, and access to user feedback and current financial information. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by TPoklad (talk • contribs) at 13:45, August 26, 2025 (UTC).
Discussion
[edit]
Comment @TPoklad: I'm always in favor of more organization ID's like this - however your examples should be specific, not generic. On the left hand side an actual company listed in Wikidata, on the right hand side the actual ID for that company. Also if there's a formatter URL or something like that a link to the relevant page showing that ID corresponds to that company, for verification. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:08, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith Thank you. I've added more specific examples. However, I noticed that the Minfin URL contains the industry (credits, invest, insurance). Should I use the entire URL as the ID? TPoklad (talk) 07:31, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- For banks I've created a Mix'n'Match catalog 7321. For the other companies isn't so easy. Gerwoman (talk) 10:22, 29 August 2025 (UTC)

- @Gerwoman@ArthurPSmith I’ve completed the Mix'n'Match catalog. What is the next step? TPoklad (talk) 14:09, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

- @TPoklad: are the id's actually unique, or could the same id be used for different organizations because they are in different industry categories? Also, including the industry as part of the id will allow a formatter URL to be defined using the links you have now; otherwise they won't be linked in the Wikidata UI. So it's probably best to specify the id's in a way that includes the industry. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:01, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith As mentioned earlier, the catalog includes only banks. There are no organizations from other industries, so the IDs are unique and cannot overlap across categories.
- So, including the industry in the ID is not necessary in our case. TPoklad (talk) 06:42, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- @TPoklad: I have updated the proposal template above to restrict it to just banks. If you could add one or two more examples for banks to the template that would make this ready I think. ArthurPSmith (talk) 21:43, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith Thanks, I've added a couple more examples for banks TPoklad (talk) 19:55, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
