Here are a few of my favourite shots of the last of the spring flowering we have seen on the trails lately.
The oh-so-showy Columbia Lilies.Ready for my close-up, Ms. Badass…The wild lupin says “hold my beer.”The Himalayan Blackberry can’t compete in terms of showiness, but the fruit it bears can’t be beat for sweetness and flavour. St. John’s Wort makes an appearance just before the Summer Solstice every year. As does the flowering dogbane. And of course we have the ever-present, adorable Dog Berry.
We hope you have an enjoyable weekend and are appreciating the changing seasons, wherever you are and whatever they are changing to/from.
Waiting in my garden for me to join him in a game of Chase That Ballie.Scanning for threats on the left.Scanning for threats on the right.Cooling off in the grass after chasing ALL THE BALLIES that Oma can throw or kick before she too wants to collapse in the grass, LOL!In yet another cool spot, with yet another ballie after yet another round of chasing them. Looking kinda sleepy. I think we are finally done with the ballie game…for now!
We hope you have a marvelous weekend of fun and games, and then naps afterwards.
No, I’m not speaking of the cougar family recently seen in my neighbourhood although that has certainly been cause for concern and resulted in foreshortened and/or lack of walkies on the trails lately.
I’m talking about this vicious beast, seen in my garden today.
My poor veggies are at risk from this voracious predator!!!
What is Bowser doing while Said Vicious Beast is cavorting amongst my plants, you ask?
You woke me up for what?!The audacity. Can’t you see this puppy needs his rest?
Yes, this same dog who has to run outside and bark if the wind moves the wisteria branches just a little too much CANNOT BE BOTHERED to wake up enough to go outside and chase a bunny.
Luckily, so far my peas and beans are showing no signs of bunny predation. No thanks to Bowser. Hmmmph.
We hope you are safe from vicious bunnies this weekend.
I was at Goats On The Roof recently and found something that I thought Bowser might enjoy. I kept the bag on my kitchen counter.
Wait. Did Oma just walk into the kitchen? I’d better investigate.Local dried sardines!Bowser is definitely intrigued. He’s going in for a bite. (Sorry, my camera couldn’t make up its mind on what to focus on, so it decided on the rug?!?)It’s safe to say Salty Kisses are a success in Bowser’s opinion.
We hope you find some delicious treats this weekend.
In the spring, the trail is covered in blooms everywhere one looks.
And that makes us bloom (with happiness) as well! My daughter was accompanying us and able to take this shot. The ubiquitous invader known as Scotch Broom. You can see lots of it in the background of the previous photo.Thimbleberry flowersWestern StarflowerHoneysuckleElderberrySaskatoon Berry aka ServiceberryMy sharp-eyed daughter spotted this beauty of a barred owl. How lucky were we to be able to observe it to our hearts’ and eyes’ content. Speaking of observing, here is the Waiting For A Treat Flower – another ubiquitous feature of the trail.
Have a marvelous weekend, and get out on a trail if you can!
He’s been scruffier, but with the hot weather already happening it was time to descruff the Bowz. The algorithm sends me meme after hilarious Miniature Schnauzer meme.Accurate. A deeply offended Bowser.Clearly, treats and adoration are in order here. And then maybe just maybe we will be forgiven.
We had some very hot days recently. It did not keep either of us out of the garden (Note to self: next year, start garden chores way earlier!), however it did lead to some changes in my supervisor’s behaviour.
Guess who has found the coolest spot in the garden to hang out in and observe the work of the peasant labouring to remove the strawberry runners gone wild? Not moving from this delightful spot, that’s for sure!Take your time, peasant. I am quite comfortable here. (I’m in the midst of listening to an audiobook set in England in the 1880’s so Bowser sounds like a snooty lord for this post. Apologies.)When I’m done with you, perhaps I’ll go watch Mommy work. What is that expression again? “Working like a dog”? I think not.
We hope you find some time to relax in a cool, shady spot this weekend.
It’s always so gratifying to see the spring blooms at this time of year.
Salmon Berry bloomsBowser is usually close by, wondering what’s taking me so long.Wild Bleeding HeartBowser hoping I’ll stop stopping, and get with the program 🤣.Western TrilliumLovely to see so many of them scattered throughout the woodlands. The Oregon Grape are flowering too.Vanilla Leaf. Not in flower as yet, but I love seeing these plants return in the spring as well.My favourite of all the things blooming in the spring!
We hope you have a fabulous, blooming spring weekend! Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate it.
First, I wait at the door (beseeching eye mode: activated) for someone anyone to take me walkies.
It might be working.Yes!!!! Gear on, a firm grip on the poop bag – I’m ready!Try to keep up, will you humans?
At the end of our street, the humans try to take the leash back into their control. Sometimes I am nice and let them and then, other times…
Stubborn schnauzer mode: activated.I love being in the woods and in the creek! And I loooooove walk treats. My appetizers, before the main event!Mommy is taking off my gear once I’m back home.Breakfast! When the weather is good, I don’t want to come inside ever so I do my dining al fresco. For the rest of the morning, I will supervise any humans that are outdoors (and hopefully they throw ballies for me to chase) on top of my constant vigilance over my kingdom territory.
And that’s a typical Bowser the Schnauzer morning!
We hope you have some great mornings planned, too.
I was away recently, visiting my sister. While I was away my daughter sent me this picture of Bowser, apparently in repose.
His tucked-under right hind leg says ready to spring into action and his splayed left hind leg says I’m done for tonight. 🤣
Weirdo!
Fellow dog (and even cat) people: has your pet ever made such a similar (or different) strange pose? Everybody: what would you even call this situation?
