Why and how has Noah Kahan exploded into mainstream popularity while other folk artists haven’t been able to?
Why and how has Noah Kahan exploded into mainstream popularity while other folk artists haven’t been able to?

I don’t mean it as a diss but it’s just so crazy how he’s blown up. I remember first discovering him back in like 2017/18 maybe while listening to Ben Howard. He was alright and I didn‘t really pay much attention until his song - View Between Villages. I had that song on repeat the first time hearing it back in 2023. I couldn’t get enough of it. I then met my ex who was so into him. And that’s how I got more into him and Zach Bryan around then.

I’ve seen Ben Howard, Novo Amor, Ocie Eliot, Leif Vollebekk and they only were able to sell out a 2-3,000 venue. Noah Kahan has been selling out 50,000 + arenas. I always assumed folk music to be very niche.

How was he able to break that mainstream barrier? And the crazy thing is I’ve never heard him on radio.

I think he’s absolutely amazing. But it’s just crazy that so many other similar artists have never blown up.
