Zombie delivers a scary horror movie immediately recognizable as his own -- something that will come as a welcome relief to fans who've diligently sat through seven "Halloween" sequels in hopes of one day reliving the original's terrifying magic.

This Myers is more problem child than bogeyman.

The film is different from all the previous ones because in this its director seeks to focus on the mind of the character and you do not give an explanation of michael's **** has entertaining and bloody scenes, the best remake.

The A.V. Club
This latest unsuccessful stab at Carpenter's masterwork just proves that the original Halloween is as unbeatable as its masked leading man.

Los Angeles Times
It's a more polished, high-fidelity version of a story that's played out on screen many times since 1978, but once Zombie runs out of subtext, he's right back to the same old slasher text: "Blood. Guts. The end."
40
Austin Chronicle
Zombie continues to have a true, unflinching artist's eye for the sublimely horrific (a woodsy murder sequence is pregnant with disturbing, painterly compositions), that eye is wasted here on an unnecessarily moribund history of sociopathy as it relates to Halloween in Haddonfield, Illinois.
30
Chicago Reader
The set-up is tediously slow, while the later murders are packed so tightly it's like watching a blender on high speed.
20
Washington Post
A film that contains dialogue so nasty and stupid, you'd swear (right along with the characters) that the booker for "Jerry Springer" wrote it (Zombie did).

While I think this movie is highly underrated & misunderstood, it still has its flays, a lot of flaws. And it’s by no means a great film, but it is one that’s is interesting and tries something new especially when acting as a remake to a classic slasher film with huge fan base.POSITIVES:- Last 45 minutes are great! They’re essentially just a modernized more bloody version of John Carpenter’s 1978 film, and it’s easy the best part of the film in my opinion. Although it takes a while to get there tho.- Michael Myers (played by Tyler Maine) is great in this and the scariest Michael Myers in my opinion.- The mask is awesome- Laurie Strode is also great in thisNEGATIVES:- First hour of the film is ****. A way to drawn out Rob Zombie style backwoods hillbilly version of Michael Myers childhood.- for the love of god write a better script. While I think Rob Zombie is actually a great director for the most part, his scripts are terrible. The script in this movie is trash filled with ****, **** & **** every other word. Which really takes you out of the film.- doesn’t know what it’s trying to be. This movie feels like they had 2 different ideas of how to present Michael Myers. On one hand your supposed to hate Michael Myers for the terrible things he’s doing. On the other hand they almost have you sympathizing with him the first have of the movie. Not really clear how they want you to feel, which is kind of important when your making a **** Michael Myers film.Overall, this movie is a very flawed and miss matched film that still tries something interesting, but doesn’t quite hit the **** rush, check it out on streaming.

I've been a fan of Rob Zombie since he released his innovative House of 1000 Corpses. It wasn't perfect but it was clear he had a knack for the dirtier and more wildly creative side of the genre. He followed that up with the unexpected and surprisingly layered Devil's Rejects and so on and on. His films have always interested me. Even when they were hot messes like Lords of Salem. They were at least unique and intriguing. And stylistically inspired. So I was excited when first seeing this film back in 2007. I mostly like what he did with it. I really liked the first half with the dissection of Michael and his enviorment. And was quite blown away by Sheri Moon Zombie as his mother. It's by far her best performance. But when we get to the actually remade part it suffers from some of the same problems that plagued the franchise but with a meaner and less entertaining streak. Also the casting of Scout Taylor Compton is all wrong. She's just unbearably annoying and her friends are as well. I lived the ferociousness of his character but his journey was a little nonsensical.

It has been fashionable some years ago to remake old horror films. Some, in fact, deserve this kind of "second chance" but others end up not deserving that. This is the case of "Halloween" 1978. This remake of 2007 brings nothing new and this is a problem, along with the simple fact that it fails totally as a horror movie, not being able to scare us. The actors' work is decent enough. Although we never see him in the face, Tyler Mane (and sometimes Daeg Faerch, when he's using his mask) did a good job playing the monstrous Michael Myers, and Malcolm McDowell's strong presence (as Dr. Loomis) is equally important and noteworthy. Although the actors struggle, some dialogues and scenes are bad because of the material given to them. It seems that screenwriter was obsessed with profanities and sex, two things that are too present in the film, without any purpose with this excessive presence. The worst of this film, as far as the actors are concerned, is Scout Taylor-Compton, who has always been too histrionic. So, this movie is a horror disaster. It never freaks us out and even becomes funny. But it works best as a light thriller, with touches of slasher movie. In that perspective, its bearable, but still its far from having the quality it should have to justify the money spent on it.

Really disappointing. This film is not only meant to be a remake of the brilliant horror film Halloween from the 70s but it is also meant to explore and explain how Michael became the brutal killer that he is, but this film fails on both fronts. It doesn't really explain why he is a murderer, instead we just see Michael killing people as a child and by the time the film reaches the classic Halloween premise with Michael returning as an adult, the film just turns into completely mindless gore and violence that quickly stops being scary. There's just nothing clever in the horror, the only things it has to offer are its jump scares and its gore. There also seems to be a number of completely pointless events to get a reaction from the audience, such as a random **** scene...I'm not joking. This film had potential but it has sadly failed to give us anything more than just a few mild scares.
