  • Last week the Yours to Read Committee, Macmillan’s in-house coalition against book banning, welcomed drag performer and activist Cholula Lemon to our offices for our second annual Drag Story Hour event! Employees enjoyed a reading of IT’S PRIDE, BABY! by Allen R. Wells; illustrated by Dia Valle, a Q&A with Cholula, and a “Dragtivity” Doodle session. Many thanks to Cholula for leading such a wonderful event at the end of Pride Month! #Pride #Inclusion #ThePlaceToBe #YoursToRead

A lot of people have asked me over the years what drives my work ethic. The truth is that ever since I’ve been a little kid, I’ve loved to compete and have been willing to try anything. I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can show kids who might not be the tallest or the fastest, that they, too, have greatness in them. And that they should always keep trying. I’m happy to share now that JALEN PLAYS IT ALL, written by me and illustrated by the incredible Neely Daggett, will be released (next year) by Feiwel & Friends. 📚 The children’s book is a story about discovering that success doesn’t happen overnight. There are mistakes, setbacks, and moments when giving up may feel easier than pushing forward. And while basketball was always at the center of my journey, every sport I played helped build the habits, character, and work ethic that made me who I am. You can learn more about the story and check out some of the amazing art by Neely with the link below. I can’t wait to share more about the book soon. Available to preorder wherever you buy books. 👇🏽 https://lnkd.in/eY4waX2q

The freedom to read is also the freedom to think, imagine, and innovate. In our latest Holtzbrinck On article, Jon Yaged, CEO of Macmillan Publishers, reflects on why the fight against book bans extends far beyond publishing and why access to ideas remains essential to a healthy, innovative society. As debates over access to ideas and the freedom to read continue around the world, Jon explores why the freedom to encounter new ideas matters, and why a society that limits what people can read ultimately limits what it can imagine and its ability to build what comes next. #HoltzbrinckTogether #FreedomToRead

Macmillan has approved near- and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and our net-zero science-based target has been verified. These targets provide a clear, science-aligned roadmap to reduce emissions across our operations and supply chain, as part of the broader effort to limit global warming to 1.5°C. We’re committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our value chain by 2050, with meaningful near-term reductions already underway.
