the history of leopardstown racecourse

BERJAYA

Leopardstown Racecourse has been at the heart of Irish horse racing for well over a century, with a legacy that reflects both the evolution of the sport and Ireland’s enduring passion for racing.

The racecourse was established in 1888 by Captain George Quin, who drew inspiration from Sandown Park in England when creating the venue.

From its earliest days, Leopardstown quickly established itself as a key fixture in Ireland’s racing calendar.

In 1967, Leopardstown was acquired by the Horse Racing Board of Ireland (now Horse Racing Ireland), marking a new era of development and investment.

Since then, the racecourse has grown into a flagship venue for Irish racing, hosting many of the sport’s most prestigious meetings and attracting top horses, jockeys, and trainers from around the world.
