Mateer: A Badari Warriors SciFi Romance Novel (Sectors New Allies Series Book 2)
Her only hope is Mateer, the genetically engineered alien warrior imprisoned with the humans. He knows more than he’s sharing about this planet, their captors and the fate of other humans, including perhaps her own sisters. Turns out everyone from her colony has been kidnapped by the Khagrish, a ruthless race of alien scientists. Working for enemies of the human-led Sectors, the Khagrish have created the Badari to be super soldiers.
Mateer, a tough Badari enforcer, now a rebel, is captured while infiltrating the lab to help his pack bring it down. He’s also been ordered by his leaders to search for Megan and save her life at all costs. Tortured by the enemy, he’s offered one chance at survival – convince Megan to become his mate and assist the Khagrish with further experiments.
As the situation at the lab grows worse, Megan struggles against her deep attraction to Mateer, while she does her best to shield the other humans from the terrible Khagrish experiments. For his part, Mateer knows she really is his fated mate and despairs of being able to keep her safe, as the rebel attack is delayed and she fights the truth of their bond.
Will they be able to work together to defeat Khagrish plans and preserve human lives until the promised rescue happens? And what of their future together – will Megan accept Mateer as her true mate, or walk away if she’s freed?
This is the second book in a new scifi romance series and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is a series but romance always wins the day in my novels!

Just binge-read both Badari Warrior books
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2018I had never read one of Ms. Scott’s books, but saw a blurb on FaceBook and tried the first one in the series: Aydarr. I was hooked from page one. One of my favorite genres is alien abduction romance, and I read a lot of them, so I thought I’d seen all the plot twists there were. I was wrong. Ms. Scott’s premise is unique, with many, many layers of characters and plots. Her heroes: Aydarr in book one and Mateer in book two, are just what you’d want them to be - strong, honorable, smart, protective, but willing to recognize the strength of their heroines. The heroines, Jill and Megan, are smart, savvy women, with skills and compassion. I loved the first book so much I immediately bought and read the second, Mateer. It was just as good! My only complaint: I already read a couple dozen series. Now I’ve got another must-read to wait for!

Enjoyed it
Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2020This is the second book in this series and I enjoyed it. There’s action, and drama and a few twists that keep you flicking pages.
The world building continues and the characters are more defined and their individual personalities well developed and easy to distinguish from each other.

Mateer by Veronica Scott
Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2023This was Sectors New Allies Series book 2 and it was well written as the first one was. The story had all the elements of drama and just the right amount of romance. Megan is a doctor captured by aliens who is trying to do the right things to survive. Mateer is a Badari Warrior who escaped from the alien keeping his people in prison. They meet and click right away.

A series I will be rereading
Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2019A great addition to the series. I am so glad to have discovered this author & this series! What great reads. They've really kept my attention. Each one has been a surprise. The circumstances of each 'discovery' add to the world build in unique ways. There are action scenes, sympathetic & heroic characters, romantic sex scenes, cautiously happy endings.
Yes there's more or less insta-love along the lines of fated mates but in that context it makes sense. The world build and character interactions are logical and are consistent from book to book. The 'imagery' is well done. #1 Aydarr was a favorite because the female lead was so strong & instrumental.

Alien Mate Trope
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2018Megan Garrison wakes up a captive of the Khagrish. Mateer is captured when trying to set up a rescue of the humans held by the Khagrish. Megan and Mateer become a team as they try to keep the other humans alive until they can be rescued. This is a typical alien mate story. It does tie in to the previous Sector books. This is not a trope that I really like so even though it is setting up a new story line it just is not my favorite. That said I will continue to follow the series.

Another winner for Veronica Scott
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2018I love the Badari Warriors novels and am waiting with bated breath for the next adventure in this series. With that said, I'd like to know what will happen with Walt and Harker, 2 humans who were woken from the stasis pods alongside Megan. One's a Sector operative while the other is a cop from the colony Planet Amercae 7. But one is a suck-up who will do anything to be among those who have power and prestige, to gain some of that for himself however vicariously that might be, while the other is completely dedicated to ridding their current planet of all traces of the Khagrish, Mawreg, and Chimmer influence. The tension these two bring to the hidden rebel base will make for many excellent stories.
Beyond all that, the characterizations in this book, for both new and recurring characters, are spot on for who these people are, what we expect them to be, and the situations they find themselves in. As in the last book Aydarr, I could see everything that went on vividly through the eyes of each character and I can't wait to find out what the Khagrish and Chimmer have planned for the remaining human captives in their care along with the rest of humanity out in Sector controlled space. Hopefully, our heroes, both new and old, can reconnect with the Sector controlled space to get help fighting the threat on the ground and to inform the human government about the threats the Khagrish experimentation holds for the future. And the Badari might actually hold the key to winning the human-Mawreg-Chimmer war.

Boring
Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 20232.75 Stars
This is the 2nd book in this series. Both have the same problems.
1st they are boring. Was a good premise but the execution is sorely lacking.
We never fully understand why the experiments are happening. What they are supposed to accomplish. And most make no sense at all.
For a short story of about 150 pages it really drags. It's very hard to connect with the characters.
While there is some interesting bits it isn't enough to keep my attention or make me care.
DNF at 59% page 93.
I will not be continuing this series.

An Enjoyable Read
Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2022The story had convincing characters, good world building and an interesting plot. The romance between the main characters developed plausibly. Will likely read the next book in the series.
