Our site, http://gojobs.com/browse/ , is currently self-hosted, with multiple servers, using ASP. Net and SQL.

We used to be on shared servers, but we outgrew the reliability.

Now we have dedicated database servers, and multiple web servers.

Obviously, with all the Microsoft Licensing, its expensive to maintain.

I’m hearing a lot about PHP these days.

Has anyone done a major migration from Microsoft to PHP on the web?

One of the big issues would be page naming.

Many of our existing pages are .asp, while some are .html, such as

http://gojobs.com/software-jobs.html

SEO is a major traffic issue for us, so we don’t want to kill those old pages, but try to do a parallel site, some in php, some on asp.

Has anyone done this?

Your feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Powweb supposedly udated their servers and it still has slow as a turtle cannot load the page times and is driving me nuts.

I was looking at siteground and dreamhost... anyone use these programs to run their sites from there?

Multiple Servers Behind a NAT Router

I've been scouring the search engines trying to find a way to set up multiple web servers behind a single-IP NAT router. Basically I want to configure my setup so that http://server1.mydomain.com (public) translates to http://192.168.1.2 (private) and http://server2.mydomain.com translates to http://192.168.1.3/exchange/. The only suggestion I've come across so far is setting up the router for port forwarding, but I want to keep everything on the default Port 80. I would also like to my local LAN users to be able to access these servers not via their internal addresses but by their public URLs.

I don't think it's really relevant, but just in case, Server2 (192.168.1.2) is an Exchange Server running Outlook Web Access. Perhaps someone can point me to an article or lend some advice?

I am thinking very, very seriously about shopping around for website providers for J. M. Jewelry Designs. If anyone maintains a website on a regular basis, or knows someone who does I would love to get the information about their provider. My current one makes me want to throw my computer out the window, and the thing is its not my computers fault. The provider is slow, your always needing to refresh pages because they won’t load, or you lose what updating you do because when you go to save it won’t save. Business is picking up to the extent now (which is good) to the point that I cannot deal with that web provider bullshit anymore. It takes me away from my business which is the exact opposite of what its function is for.

If business is too busy for me to set up the new site myself I may need someone to set it up for me and show me the logistics of the program once that is done. Naturally there would be compensation for such a service. Anyone interested in doing this also please forward their information.

I’m not in the habit of complaining publicly about a company I’ve had dealings with, but in mulling it over I’ve decided that I’d prefer to air my grievances publicly. In doing so I hope that some potential webhosting customers will see and decide against giving their hard earned cash to these people.

I’ve been hosted with Solid Internet for three years and before that, two years with Myacen (the same company). In that time there have been a number of prolonged outages, always blamed on a third party software provider or service. While annoying this is not my main gripe with Telewest (who also provide domain registration through LiveRegistry). My problem with the company is the owners attitude toward his customers, namely that he refuses to take responsibility for his failure to test new software (which he has publicly admitted) before installing it on production servers and, should you complain you’re met with sarcasm and no help, if you ever actually get a response (you can read his new responses to one customer here).

As a customer of Solid Internet I am only able to get help on any problems with my site via the forums, I understood this from the beginning and have no problem with it. What I do have a problem with, however, is that I’m unable to gain support via the forums because my username has been removed from the user group that allows access to the support forums. Not only this, but I’ve so far waited three days to be added to this group, meanwhile my site has been inaccessible.

I was first attracted to Solid Internet because they provided a cheap service, unfortunately it has become clearer and clearer that this is a situation where you get what you pay for.

Hi all, Just a short introduction.

My name's Sam, I just turned 18, and am currently studying a-levels, with prospects of going to university to study computer games technology. If you havent already guessed, I'm a self-confessed total geek, who loves gaming, and likes to dabble in programming and web design among other things. I also play loud rock guitar.

Anyways, just a short question for y'all. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but it seems the most relevent community in all of livejournal.

I'm currently working on a new site, which is just really a playground to test what little php and mysql I've learnt over the years. Now, I've set up an apache server (version 1), and am using it on a standalone computer for developing the site. When I first set it up, it worked fine, All I'd have to do is type "ht t p:/ /localhost" in my browser and it would access it fine, and all the serverside stuff worked brilliantly.

Now, I left it a couple of months, and when I went back to it the other day, it didn't work at all. I opened my browser (both IE and Mozilla respond the same), and it opened the index page to localhost just fine, however when I tried to access any other page, it said the connection was refused. I confess, I dont know much about running servers, so I was wondering if any of you would be able to point me in the right direction?

Hey guys. I'm wanting to start an internet business and I would need a set up almost exactly like hotornot, but instead of pictures, I would want video. Could anyone tell me where I could go to get this started and how much it would approximately cost? I know I'd need a good server (this is what I was told, still don't know what that means exactly) and a few databases. Again.. I'm not that clear on this. If someone could talk with me about this, I would really appreciate it. WHat I would need is for members to have profiles and be able to upload video. Then there would be a scoring system similar to hotornot. There would also need to be a free member and a paid member(and no I'm not talking about a porn site) :P I have the complete idea, ready to start on it, I'm just not sure where to begin or who to talk to. I would appreciate ANY help concerning this. Thank you. :)

hey, i really need some help! i chose the L1 hosting plan dreamhost.com .and used a 50% off code. therefore i was onlypaying 70 dollars and i paid the $70 with my credit card. i chose the 12 months for $119.00. well it went through and all but now it is saying that i owe 9.95 a month. it said the domain name was free and all i was doing was PREPAYING for 12 months of service. and now it is showing that i have 0gb per month 0 bandwith. i dont understand why it's doing that. please tell me i didnt just pay 70 dollars to register a domain name..with no hosting...please help me out...im so lost. here are some screen caps to explain my confusion a bit further..

hey y'all. i am currently in the midst of buying my first domain. and hosting. i need quite of bit of space which is why i was going to go with the dreamhost.com L2 plan. it's a little expensive though. does anyone know of another site with similar space and good feedback that is somewhere around 100 a year? Or somewhere with bi annual payments? if there is somewhere with bi annual payments, i am willing ro spend a little more.

also, my site is going to be my graphics portfolio and then im making a personal site. and hosting my firned who also wants a graphics domain. does anyone know how much space this would need? do i even need as much space as the L2 is giving?

are these good hosting sites? or is there something better? basically this is my first itme BUYING a domain or being hosted. except by friend who have their own domains. i am not sure exactly WHAT to buy! but ild like osmething that can withhold lots of visitors and files im looking for a site that can hold alot. it will be my domain. and im hosting my friend. thats about it. im not sure what im looking for..just space ....something reliable and something UNDER 100 dollars. 100 dollars or under would be awesome....the life of a student...lol
