Gee Cross Labour Club Outings

 

We recently received this email from Ken Smith.
Over to Ken....


"My whole family were very much involved with Gee Cross Labour Club over much of my lifetime and I found reading the recent blog very interesting and nostalgic. I was a regular visitor, along with my parents, throughout my childhood and attach several photographs dating back to the late 1940's and 1950's that may be of interest to some of your followers.

Photograph No.1 dates from about 1950 and is of the group of children taken on the annual day trip to Blackpool. Yours truly under the 'Luxury Travel' notice to the right of the tall girl with the hair ribbon with the Belle Vue Aces badge in the lapel."



 "The remaining three photographs are of 'day trips', which were a regular occurrence back in the fifties and sixties when car ownership was rare and were, and no doubt still are, an excuse for friends to gather and have a good old knees-up!"

Ladies day out

This photo was sent to us by Stephen Burton with the following text..

"Here is a photograph of a ladies day out taken on Commercial Street around 1950. 
My Grandmother is just to the right and slightly behind the lady holding a very large hat.

Hopefully somebody will be able to put names to a few of the faces" !

Pub outings...

 This photograph shows a ladies outing from the Oddfellows.

Unfortunately, I have no date or knowledge of where they are.

Various Zion Church photos.

The first one  shows the Zion Whit Walks on their way down King Edward Road circa 1974.
Pictured is Phyllis Kempster ,who was a lovely lady, and Sean and Ian.

This next one shows  Zions 1974 whit walk, up Lilly St / Backbower. Unfortunately, its difficult to make out who's who, due to poor photo quality ... an evocative photo nontheless!


I love how the children are holding on to the ribbons surrounding them :)


Karen Mayall playing snooker at Zions youth club.
She made a 50 break and the Reporter heard about it and came and took this photo !
