According to Deadline, our dear Matthew MacFadyen has joined Rachel Weisz in the SEANCE ON A WET AFTERNOON movie adaptation. It follows Myra, a self-proclaimed medium, who convinces her husband, Billy, to kidnap the son of a wealthy family so she can lead the police to the “missing” child and legitimize her psychic abilities. When Myra’s true intentions come to light, however, Billy realizes her plan threatens to consume them both.

Apple TV + has prepared new thriller TV series CAPE FEAR with Amy Adams andour dearest Patrick Wilson alongside Javier Bardem. It has been announced today that  the new series will stream from June 5th this year starting with two episodes and then continue weekly. The ten episode series is based on John D. MacDonald novel “The Executioners”which has been previously adapted a couple of times but for the big screen. The plot of the new series: a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison and he wants vengeance. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spileberg are producing.

Fox has set our dear Sir Stephen Fry as the lead of their new series THE INTERROGATOR which will follow him as Conrad Henry, former MI6 agent, and his elite team. When conventional methods have failed, Henry’s quirky charm, superior intellect, and mind-bending behavioral maneuvers make him the only man able to lockpick the minds of the world’s most dangerous criminals. Fry himself has actually written the pilot for the series which has been ordered for a twelve episode season.

TRAILER FOR NEW ITV'S BRITISH COURT SCANDAL MINI TV SERIES

ITV and Britbox have released first trailer from their four part TV series THE LADY which describes the rise and fall of former royal dresser Jane Andrews, whose rags to riches fairy tale fell apart when she was convicted of murder. Once a young working-class girl, Jane answered an advertisement in a magazine and to the astonishment of her friends and family, became the Duchess of York’s dresser at Buckingham Palace. Moving amongst the highest social circles in Britain, Jane managed to secure a place in the upper-classes, only to lose her job with the Duchess after nine years of service. Still reeling from her fall from grace, Jane went on to meet charismatic businessman Thomas Cressman and fell deeply in love. Soon cracks began to develop in theromance Jane had pinned all her hopes on, with disastrous consequences.Mia McKenna-Bruce will play the former royal aide and dresser who was convicted of murder, with Natalie Dormer as Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York although, admittedly, she looks nothing like the real Sarah. Ed Speleers is Thomas Cressman, Andrews’ former partner who she was convicted of murdering in 2001. The cast will also have Philip Glenister, Claire Skinner, Laura Aikman, Ophelia Lovibond, Mark Stanley, Daniel Ryan and Sean Teale.

After the success of the first season, British U&DRAMA has released a teaser for the second season of their hit series BERGERAC which returns this spring. Following the gripping events in series one Jim Bergerac (Damien Molony) is back facing the most challenging case of his career when shocking events unfold at a wedding reception on Jersey. Jim’s even tentatively started dating, with Kim’s (Chloé Sweetlove) encouragement, although he still feels the hole in his life since his wife died. Privately he doesn’t hold out much hope of meeting someone and is doing it more for Kim’s benefit than his own. But then he meets Nicola (Camilla Beeput), a visitor to the island, and they connect. Could this be the start of something for Bergerac? Romance is also in the air for Bergerac’s formidable mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford (Zoë Wanamaker), who has found a new man in her life, the effervescent, charming Nigel (Adrian Edmondson). But in the same breath as meeting Nicola, Bergerac is pulled into his next big case when the groom at a wedding reception is found murdered in his hotel room. She faces off against Blunt’s character, her one-time assistant who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs. David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the original film, are returning for the sequel which arrives next May. Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu and even Lady Gaga are in the cast as well!

Straight over from United Kingdom comes the trailer for moving comedy drama GLENROTHAN a directorial debut for Brian Cox in which he also takes the lead role next to Alan Cumming. They play two brothers following a violent exchange with their father on the day of their mother's funeral, the younger of the two left their Highland home for America. After forty years they reunite in the land of their birth. The older brother has stepped  down as chairman of the family's whisky distillery and now unveils his plan to pass on the torch to his younger brother Donal who moved to the US nearly 40 years ago and has no intention to run the family's business. The film is out April 17th in cinemas.

Today's stop in our search for brand new period set international films and series is over in Scandinavia, starting with new Danish period set series MARGRETHE which follows a young girl which will grow up to become queen Margrethe II who recently abdicated in favour of her son Frederick. With her fate sealed from birth, the series follows her and her family’s daily life at Amalienborg, the residence of the Danish royal family, as well as the employees at court. Beginning in 1940, the six episode series will embrace the royal family for better or worse, on the palace’s polished floors and as they face political dilemmas, but first and foremost tell the story of the girl who was born a princess – and becomes heir to the throne as a young teenager in 1953. Done for Danish TV2, it stars Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Josefin Asplund as King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid, Kirsten Lehfeldt as Queen Alexandrine and Henrik Larsen as King Christian X, while Margrethe is played by several different child actors.

 

 THE SWEDISH CONNECTION FROM NETFLIX

Over from Sweden comes new historical film with Henrik Dorsin and Sissela Benn, THE SWEDISH CONNECTION which will hit cinemas at the beginning of February and then stream on Netflix from February 19th. Set in 1942, the film takes place while Sweden attempts to keep a low profile to avoid provoking Germany and risking occupation.The story centers on the legal department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs which, headed by Gösta Engzell, initially leaves most Jewish visa applications untouched to maintain the country’s neutrality. However, the arrival of a newly appointed staff member, Rut Vogel, changes the dynamic. As she begins to question the practice, coinciding with the circulation of rumors regarding extermination camps, a dangerous policy shift begins.
