What's In YOUR Cupboards?
Surprisingly, I do NOT have any
Captain America / Winter Soldier
glasses or mugs --
But I DO still have my
plastic Yogi Bear mug
from when I was a pre-schooler!
I hope all the paint I ingested off the rim
wasn't toxic. Consumer safety regulations
were SO lax in the early 1960s.

Top of the Fridge
Well, from the top of MY fridge,
you'd get a pair of red silicone oven mitts,
an antique bronze statuette
and a red china teapot.
The bronze statuette is the only thing of value, I suppose.
It depicts a small cherubic Cupid hammering out
an arrowhead on his anvil. Someone gifted it to
my paternal grandfather about a hundred years ago or so
because he and his father before him were both blacksmiths,
as well as being farmers and millers.
The statuette eventually came down to my father
and then to me to be its guardian.
Here's a back view so you can see
Cupid's cute little wings and bare bum.
So, what would we find
on top of YOUR fridge, hmmm?
Tell all in the comments!

Thursday Art Date With Rain -- "Snowman"
Welcome to Rain Frances' first Art Date of 2022!
We've got lots of snow in Edmonton but unfortunately,
it's not wet enough to actually make a snowman for this post,
so I've resorted to photos of My Rare One's
vintage blow mold snowman instead!
This dapper gentleman lives
between her two garage doors,
securely fastened in place by
looped electrical wire around his neck
which then goes inside the garage.
It looks a bit like he's being garroted but
I assure you all, he's fine.
He lights up the back alley at night
with his internal 100 watt lightbulb!

As per usual, I'll pad out the rest of this post
with LOLs and memes from the internet --
enjoy these goofy varieties of snowmen!

Flowers, Both Fake and Real
(1) Fake:
Longtime readers may remember my luuuuuv for fake, maintenance-free greenery on my balcony. Alas, these two lovelies bit the dust at the end of last summer --
Age and relentless sunshine did them in and they became brittle, shedding leaves and causing general mayhem. So this summer, I bought a new fake floral-and-greenery arrangement to sit on this table instead. It's also nice and heavy so it won't blow over if there's a strong wind. The damn thing cost me an arm and a leg so I hope to get at least a couple of summers out of it before it too succumbs to the pitiless elements.
(2) Real:
On the other hand, My Rare One luuuuuvs to garden and has some beautiful irises which flower every June. Here's her Japanese irises --
I don't know what the official name of these yellow-and-purple irises are but when we were kids, they were commonly just called "flags." My Mom used to have them in her little front flower garden too.
These beauties are called "root beer irises" because of their rich tawny colour --
And here are both kinds of irises together --
