It's Australia Day Down Under
I've never been to Australia,
but I'd love to go some day!
Greetings from Canada!
Enjoy your National Day today,
our Commonwealth Cousins!

Happy Australia Day!
Sparing no expense, today this blog is celebrating the National Day of Australia!
This year, there's even more reason to celebrate because Australia has just recently recognized the right to same-sex marriage -- yay!
One insufficiently appreciated fact about Australia is that it is a world leader in engine, vehicle and fuel technology --
Of course, we all know about the weird and wonderful animals that are found only Down Under!
How did they get there?
There's the platypus, of course. It's a little-known fact that Canada's national symbol had a hand (or some other body part) in its creation. You're welcome, our Commonwealth cousins!
And Australia is just full of crocs, we all know that!
Kangaroos are, of course, everywhere too!
They cause mayhem on the roads. Kind of like moose in Canada.
And who doesn't love those cute 'n adorable koala bears?
Uh-oh, another misconception shattered?
Oh no, could koalas be co-opted for the purpose of evil?
Luckily, getting koalas to actually do anything might be a bit of a problem. Duuuuuude!
Perpetually smashed? Let's all move to Australia and join them!

Happy Australia Day!
On Australia's National Day, I just want to take a quick moment to salute our Commonwealth cousins who live Down Under. So, up here in the Great White North, what do we REALLY know about Australia?
First of all, they talk funnier than us Canuckians, EH?
And EVERYTHING in their part of the world is dangerous and deadly.
But Australians always keep their, shall we say, WHIMSICAL sense of humour --
So now, what are the three main things that immediately leap to mind about Australia? Yes, you're right --
CROCS!
KANGAROOS!
AND KOALA BEARS!
But seriously, Australia is SO much more than our tired stereotypes about it! I sincerely hope to visit Australia one day and see this magnificent country for myself. Until then . . .

Happy Australia Day, Mate!
To honour the national day of Canada's Commonwealth cousin, here's a few Down Under LOLs to tickle yer billabongs and didgeridoos:
Please note that I avoided the use of clichéd gags using upside-down photos. You're welcome.

Scots 'n Aussies
Today is Robbie Burns Day, the birthdate of Scotland's greatest poet, och aye. And tomorrow is Australia Day, mate! So tie yer kangaroo down, throw another haggis on the barbie and celebrate both festivals together by watching this crazy Australian TV ad. Enjoy!
