Scooping the Barnyard

10 Dec

I have to say, I am ready to be done scooping snow for the winter, and we haven’t even hit the first day of winter.  But, last Sunday, I pulled on my big girl boots and grabbed the snow shovel and started digging my paths to do chores.

One path was to let Dee, Ava, and Wanda out of the Morton building

Antigone also came out and explored the paths

I cleared the picnic table; it needs some sunshine to be fully cleared

After I got the bare minimum done, I started widening my paths.

lots of paths means Dee can veer off and not get run over by Maybeline (Ava behind)

Then I cleared a larger space outside the milk room.

I really need to admit that true winter is here and get the goats started on grain.  They do need a bit in the winter to help them maintain their weight and stay warm.  I don’t usually have to start them on grain until December, and it just hasn’t happened in the midst of the snows and brutal cold.

The llamas finally showed up

the gang’s all here

But, I did get them started, so by the time we get cold again (this weekend), it might be doing them a bit of good.

The Snow Arrived

9 Dec

Well, the snow arrived just like predicted.  I noticed the flurries about 3:30 Saturday afternoon, so I decided to get chores done and everyone where they needed to be.

Sky came out with me to do chores

These four are pretty easy to get in.  That’s because I’m giving them sweet feed once I get them shut in.

Ava, Dee and Wanda; Antigone in the door

I still have to put Antigone in her own area so she doesn’t get picked on.  But she goes in willingly and seems content.  She’s not alone, and she’s safe and gets sweet feed.

By the time I got them settled in, the snow had picked up.

BERJAYA

Can you see Skittles in the doorway?

Everyone got their hay.  I took a minute or two to enjoy the beauty.

It was long enough for the dog to get plenty covered in snow.

But he got to come in and nap on a nice warm bed. By the next morning, we’d had another eight inches (give or take).

I started scooping my paths.  I did make sure that the dog had all the patio and deck so he doesn’t have to get ice balls in between his pads.

But I’m pretty sure that I am ready for spring.  Seriously.

Waiting for the Snow

8 Dec

Saturday afternoon saw another winter storm approaching.  Since the critters had just been shut in the barnyard, they had nothing to do but stand around and wait for the snow.

And I think I might be ready for spring already. LOL
