Misfits and they slipped on the bananas

The squirrels were out Thursday morning to check on the pumpkin seeds. Word has got out.

This is a favorite food and they lost no time in finding and setting up to guard and eat them.

Thursday the misfits insulated bag and ice block went out early, good thing because the delivery came very early shortly after nine am.

And, yes, we have no bananas. They were supposed to appear on top of the box in some fancy bag.

I wonder if the drivers didn't get the message, since for years they've been delivering just a box. I reported it and their system must be blinking, because they only credited me with one bunch, instead of both. No doubt they'll fix this. They're good about it.

So, extra canned goods for the food pantry, cranberries for next week's sauce. I'll make it ahead and freeze it, not knowing when we celebrate this year, HS always working Thanksgiving.

Here's the cranberry sauce in progress

Garlic paste because it's so useful everywhere I use garlic.  Spinach and parsley for greens, to be added into tofu, see it there, dishes and other things. A bunch dropped into hot soup is good, just wilts it enough.

Apples as usual, blueberries for desserts and maybe muffins this week. Sardines for quick protein sandwiches. Diced tomatoes get in everywhere. One of my easy meals, really more assembly than cooking,  is chickpeas and tomatoes heated together with seasoning. It works like a stew, spinach gets in there, too.

Thursday early the car buyer called, wondering if I'd like an earlier appointment, he had cancellations Thursday. But I left it at Friday, not wanting to be rushed. I didn't want to be wrangling groceries and the car sale together.

About anniversaries: I remember none of the dates of death of any relative other than one brother when I was young, and Handsome Partner, because that was also Handsome Son's birthday. I remember everyone's birthday though. I think it's better to remember them then, anyway.

Happy day everyone. It's okay to remember or forget, often it's not our choice.

Misfits and a Shilling for Candles

Yesterday's misfits included a wild extravaganza of berries -- out of season raspberries and the usual blueberries. The raspberries are wonderful with good honey and homemade yogurt

I always marvel at the beauty of brown eggs, and these are so fresh, they rest right at the bottom of the pot when you boil them. I often have a boiled egg and whole grain toast for tea. Or pita bread filled with spinach and egg salad.

And the cranberries are already sauce. I make this very simply, berries, sugar and lemon juice.

And I've been serving it for years in the glass container my sister gave me many years ago, one of the few things she gave me, and treasured accordingly.

While I knit, I've been listening to this old, a bit dated, but still good, Tey. I like all her work, particularly Daughter of Time, which rehabilitated Richard III using actual research, not the wildly inaccurate pop version by Shakespeare.

And when I need to read words, because I can't knit endlessly, poor me, I'm doing a weird alternation on Kindle between the Jane Seymour book by Alison Weir and Crampton Hodnet by Barbara Pym.

The second one is an in-joke, Crampton being part of Pym's family name. And it's one of the best of her novels, with marvelous comic scenes, very movie-like. The Weir, with its social rules and expectations in dress, deportment and food references, has a lot more in common than you might think, with the humor absent. Also no violent death in Pym. At least not physical death. Social death is another issue.

A lot of interesting observations on friendship and falling lately,  thank you all. I learn from you all the time.

Happy day, everyone, I'm off to throw the Thanksgiving red cloth over the incomplete puzzle on the table, then set it up, but simply this year. Tomorrow we celebrate, on Handsome Son's day off.

In Thursday I'll be alone, neighbors mostly away to relatives for the week, but I'll be taking part in Spoutible online high jinks for other people alone on the day.  Or maybe medium jinks, we'll see. It's all good.

Cranberry sauce and a cold

I have the first cold in years, coughing and congested. Not up to much. No fever, few aches, not panicking yet.  I have so little contact with people , masking when out,  it's amazing how I managed it.

I did get to the library yesterday to change my jigsaw puzzle, vital need

BERJAYA

And I got in a supply of tissues, seems like a good idea. On the way to the store, my car alerted me that my car fob battery is low, so I went home and added in my backup fob and the alert went away. It's a tricky job changing the battery without exploding bits of fob all over the floor, so it needs to wait for now. Also till I get a new battery.

Knitted a bit, reviewed my Arabic alphabet, made cranberry sauce, now in the fridge

And today visited with my plants, looking cheerful, good as medicine.

And I'm having a breakfast cranberry muffin baked yesterday, I seem to have done a lot for someone who's moaning about being sick.

Today's about resting and seeing if Sunday's Christmas doings should be postponed. Hoping not, but Handsome Son knows I'm not quite well, so he'll  see what he wants to do.

Happy day, everyone, take care, rest, drink fluids, or not if you're feeling fine. Enjoy what you can.
