BERJAYA
A while ago, we switched to a new internet provider.
As a consequence I had to change my e-mail address.
It took quite a bit of effort, because the software on my old MacBook
is no longer supported by any of the suppliers or providers.
My keyboard had also been broken for a long time, so I had no choice
but to buy a new MacBook.
I've been very busy these past few weeks (and still am) changing my
email address in numerous accounts and log-ins.
It took some time to have it sorted out in my WordPress account as well,
but finally it seems to be working!
So, when you leave a comment I will be notified and receive an e-mail
in my new e-mail inbox!!

I hope my new e-mail address will make it possible again to leave
comments on blogs as well.

how are things going with the vases ??

BERJAYA
Well… I didn’t work on the Whimsical Vass quilt (design by Kim McLean) for some time! Until last week, when I was cleaning up and came across the blocks. However, there’s still a lot to do!

BERJAYABERJAYABERJAYABERJAYABERJAYA
I finished the top border, which is 84″ wide and hard to photograph in one piece, so I hope you get an impression from the five smaller photo’s.

BERJAYA
I love this part with the dog and whimsical shapes.

BERJAYA
After cutting most of the center blocks to size, I stitched some of them together (they are set on point). I can’t finish the complete center, as I still need to make some triangle setting blocks.

BERJAYA
Like this goat block. It’s all prepared so I can stitch the appliqué pieces down by hand. I added some Kaffe Fassett fabric.

And now it’s back to the Big Woods quilt again….

Big Woods

BERJAYA
Mr Nutter went down into the big woods and found some acorns. He is testing one. He saw cornflowers growing along a small creek and was amused to find some Mica Shrooms.

He knew for sure he had to stay a little bit longer in this beautiful  and peaceful part of the world.

I pinned this part of the quilt to the Wolf and Deer blocks and prepared the leaves, which willl be appliquéd to the sashing strip.

It’s getting harder and harder to hold everything in my hands!!

Stay tuned!

Slodki

BERJAYA
I mentioned the new BOM quilt for 2025/2026 by Sarah Fielke before, it’s called Slodki – (you pronouce Swodki) – and is inspired by Polish Tapestry.

Though I did not intend to make a start as I’m in the process of finishing the Big Woods quilt… I could not help myself and had to make a ‘test’block…

BERJAYA
When the instructions for Month 1 arrived, I did not have a plan for fabrics, colours or whatsoever. I searched the internet for inspiration and found some pictures, like the fish above. I used it as the inspiration for my ‘test’ block.

BERJAYA
My first (test) block for month 1. I used what I had on hand. Moda Grunge White Paper for the background and Saxony for the background pieces of the appliqué. The print fabrics are by Jennifer Kingwell, called Mixed Bag of Lollies.

I’v put everything aside now, so I can focus on the finish of the Big Woods quilt!

Big Woods nearing it’s end

BERJAYA
The last block I made for the Big Woods BOM Quilt is the squirrel block of month 12! Mr Nutter.

Sarah Fielke: ‘Mr Nutter is everyone’s friend. He enjoys reading crime novels and singing in the rain. Sundays are Mr Nutter’s favourite, because he always bakes a pecan pie and takes slices to all his neighbours. He’s quite the gem.’

A lot of work is going into making these blocks! The next step is to stitch the top left border block with cornflowers to Mr Nutter’s block and to add the leaves onto the sashing strip. That will be the last step before I will be able to assemble the left part of the quilt and add the remaining necessary leaves.

And then… the left and right part can be assembled, which will be quite a daunting job!

Sugarberry Christmas quilt

Christmas in July!

I’ve been working on blocks for the Sugarberry Christmas quilt, design by Bunny Hill designs© (Anne Sutton).

BERJAYA
Two years ago in August I made the center block with the house.

BERJAYA
One year ago I made some blocks for month 6 of the BOM quilt.

BERJAYA
Last week I made the remaining blocks for month 6 and stitched all 18 blocks into the two borders (not the best photo…)

BERJAYA
I also started working on month 4.

I always like to skip hop jump through my projects  ;-)

Have a nice Sunday!

Kira quilt-top

BERJAYA
I needed 80 Kira 6″ quilt blocks to make this quilt-top! The quilt-top is 48″ x 60″ (122 x 153 cm).

It was a bit of a challenge to make and stitch the blocks in a rainbow kind of way, but colours always make me happy.

I used my stash of black and white prints and my stash of Moda Bella and Kona solids. I’m glad I could put them to good use as I’m not likely going to use any of these fabrics for a quilt of my own.

I need to find me a backing, I some perseverance to baste it and then quilt it on my domestic sewing machine ;-)

Once the quilt is finished, it will be donated to Droomdekentjes and hopefully bring a smile to a kids face.

Big Woods update

I machine stitched all the backgrounds for the (border) blocks that were left to be made for the Big Woods BOM quilt, design by Sarah Fielke.

BERJAYA
Month 9, Sven the deer! I was realy dreading this block, but somehow it all went smoothly!

BERJAYA
Month 10, Winifred the Wolf! That wolves howl at full moon is a myth, nevertheless I added a moon!

BERJAYA
I stitched all the blocks together and added all the leaves.

On top of these blocks there will be a squirrel block and some border blocks.

BERJAYA
The right half of the Big Woods quilt is finished (meanwhile I added all the leaves) and the sashing is attached.

The biggest challenge will be to assemble the left and right half and to add all the center leaves…

Wish me luck!

I’ve been working on other quilt projects as well, but I’ve mainly been enjoying some Grand Slam and other Tennis tournaments, like Roland Garros, Queens and Wimbledon. It’s great to see that a whole new and young generation of incredible tennis players, was able to entertain us. I hope to see a lot more of these young people in the future!

Caution Curves Ahead!

BERJAYA
I have finished 38 of the 88 blocks until now!

Working on these blocks has a soothing effect on me. I love to appliqué the 5″ squares and the 5″ x 10″ rectangle blocks.

Choosing the colours from the Greenstone fabric collection (Jen Kingwell) and some other fabrics by Denyse Schmidt is a bit of a challenge, as I’m addicted to colour, but I’ve always loved the calming green/blue/grey colour scheme as well.

Kira quilt

The Droomdekentjes group is working on a Kira quilt, but they use centimeters and I use inches. This makes it a litle bit hard to work on a joint project unless it’s paperpieced.

I decided to start a Kira quilt myself using inches, Kona and Moda Bella Solids and black on white fabrics.

BERJAYA
I made a digital lay-out so you can see my colour plan and the blocks that I already finished!

A few of the 6″ fnished blocks.

It looks complicated but it’s a very simple technique!

It’s fun to put these fabics to good use, as I’m not likely going to use any of these in a private quilt.
