What Kind of Apparatus

3 Nov

You might remember that I had to put a horn apparatus on Shelby because she got her head stuck in the fence while I was at work one day.

Those horns just suddenly got long enough she couldn’t get them back out.  But she’s safe with the horn apparatus.

But she doesn’t seem to understand why I put that on her horns.  She’s found another use for it–a scratching apparatus!

It looks like it works well!

Watching

2 Nov

Last week and this week, I’m trying to watch my girls closely to see who comes into heat and who settled for spring break babies.  That’s always hard this time of year with me at work and the goats in pasture and the days getting shorter.

But the rain has also made it a bit harder this past week because they are less likely to go hang out by the boys.

Moonshine and Wanda were in heat last week (but they were not with a boy)

This week, I’m really watching to see if Antigone and Pretzel come into heat because I don’t think they came into heat when they were with the boys, and I didn’t see them come into heat last week when they would have.  But the shot of lutalyse I gave them might also change their heat cycle, so I’m still just watching on them.

Pretzel (and Antigone) were last in heat on Oct 8th.

This coming week, is when I should find out if Daisy and Joy settled like I think they did.

It’s also when I’ll see if Kong shocks me by getting Melba bred.

I’m not holding my breath on that one.

Truly Looking Like Fall

1 Nov

This past week has been more seasonable in temperatures, and we had another rain–about 3/4 of an inch.  And that really helped the leaves fall and make it look like fall.

The goats and llamas are enjoying this cool weather.
