Of course, my plan did not work at all. I mean, most times my breeding plan somehow works out. But, I came home on Friday, after putting Pretzel back in with Donkey on Thursday to find that she was in with Gabe and his girls.
So, I put her back with Donkey and did more work to make sure she stayed with Donkey.
It finally worked!
And she was not happy about it. Of course, I don’t think she was in heat while she was in with Gabe, and I never did see her come into heat. I knew that was a possibility.
Joy and Daisy both came into heat with Gabe. That went just as I planned. So at least part of the plan was good.
Then there’s the two little boys. Antigone was the other girl I new it would be questionable whether or not she came into heat. And I never saw her in heat.
But, I walked into the garage and peeked through the door Saturday afternoon to see Melba flagging and Kong giving her a good sniff. Of course, Kong is so shy that when I opened the door, he got scared away from her. Greg… well, Greg was enjoying his hay.
I gave things a few more minutes and checked again. Then I caught Melba and kind of directed Greg towards her tail. He gave a tiny sniff and then went back to his hay. Sheesh.
So I let Melba out. He did jump her and she stood for him.
Then it devolved into playful fighting. I left nature to take its course and I’ll find out in three weeks if it worked or not.
I really hope it worked (but I’m not holding my breath).
