Signs, Signs, Take a Break
Selma artist Clayton Cogle's "Take a Break" painting takes us back to the early 1900s
when Coca-Cola Bottling was located in a building near Water Avenue
and Lauderdale Street. The mural on the side of the building was refurbished,
and you can view it HERE.
Cogle's colorful painting is on display
at the Alabama Artists: Roots and Wings Art Exhibition
and Sale at Carneal ArtsRevive. The show ends Saturday.

Alabama: Here We Stay
"Alabama: Here We Stay" was performed by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra
and Bobby Horton to highlight StreetFest.
Horton is an Alabama composer, performer and music historian and worked
with the Symphony to tell the stories of Alabama Civil War soldiers,
both Union and Confederate, through music.

REVIVE the Arts
Selma will REVIVE the arts this Saturday with the third annual StreetFest
which celebrates "All Things Alabama." That includes arts, crafts, music,
food and produce!
I took this photo at last year's festival. which is part street fair, part catfish fry
and part classy music concert. This year's evening entertainment will be
the Alabama Symphony Orchestra's "Alabama: Here We Stay" with
Alabama composer and music historian Bobby Horton. Earlier in the day,
The Grasshopper String Band will play, and there are many more activities planned
at the Carneal ArtsRevive corner at Water Avenue and Church Street.

Tastes of Tale-Tellin'
Before the music and stories begin, come early and have a taste of Tale-Tellin'!
Supper will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12/13
in the Carneal ArtsRevive courtyard by the Alabama River.
In the photo, last year's menu included Lannie's barbecue sandwiches,
hot dogs, moonpies, cookies, chips, soft drinks and bottled water.
The Swappin' Ground also begins at 5:30 with the main event at 7.
The Alabama Tale-Tellin' Festival was founded by the late author
and storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham.

ABC Wednesday, KUDOS for the Art Show!
K is the Letter of the Week over at ABC Wednesday,
and I'm sharing some KUDOS from a recent Selma visitor.
Len Bornstein of Millburn, N.J., was in town during Pilgrimage Weekend
and gave lots of kudos to the artwork at the ArtsRevive Juried Art Show.
Among his favorite works was "Rag Rug" by Julian Wait. Bornstein is chair
of the Arts Unbound Board of Governors, which raises funds for the program.
Arts Unbound in Orange, N.J., "provides arts education, skills building
and a variety of vocational opportunities in the visual arts to youth and adults
with mental, developmental and physical disabilities."
This trip wasn't Bornstein's first to Selma. The retired educator
recollected that when he was 21, he came to Selma
during the Civil Rights Movement and ate lunch with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
