A Week of Flowers 2024: Day Three AND A Vase on Monday!

Welcome back to my Week of Flowers!

At this time of year we need something to remind us of the beauty our gardens and nature offer us in the warmer months. Something to start our day off with a smile. So join me this week in sharing some of your brightest floral photos of something you have grown this year for A Week of Flowers 2024, going through till Friday December the 6th. Just one a day, or a few if you like, it doesn’t really matter. And even if you can’t post every day, perhaps you can contribute on one or two days. Then leave a link below my post for that day so others can find you.

It is only Day Three and I am already feeling the benefits of all the flowers my blogging friends are sharing! Today I am combining my post with the In a Vase on Monday meme hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden, so I am looking back at some of my favourite vases this year.

I have just realized that my favourites were mostly from the autumn, which is my favourite time of year. Makes sense! 😃

What is your favourite time of year?

Thanks for visiting. Have a bright and cheerful day, and hope you’ll come back for more tomorrow!

A Week of Flowers 2024: Day Two

Welcome back to my Week of Flowers!

At this time of year we need something to remind us of the beauty our gardens and nature offer us in the warmer months. Something to start our day off with a smile. So join me over the next week in sharing some of your brightest floral photos of something you have grown this year for A Week of Flowers 2024, going through till Friday December the 6th. Just one a day, or a few if you like, it doesn’t really matter. And even if you can’t post every day, perhaps you can contribute on one or two days. Then leave a link below my post for that day so others can find you.

I loved seeing all the flowery posts linking into mine yesterday! Thank you! And keep them coming! 😁

Today I am showing off some of my Peonies and Poppies, flowering in May and June. They are loved by the bees and gardener alike!

A Week of Flowers 2024: Day One

Well, in the northern hemisphere at least, it is that time of year again… the weather is chilly and damp, skies are grey, and the garden is lacking in any significant colour. We need something to remind us of the beauty our gardens and nature offer us in the warmer months. Something to start our day off with a smile. So join me over the next week in sharing some of your brightest floral photos of something you have grown this year for ?A Week of Flowers 2024, going through till Friday December the 6th. Just one a day, or a few if you like, it doesn’t really matter. And even if you can’t post every day, perhaps you can contribute on one or two days. Then leave a link below my post for that day so others can find you.

Let’s get started!

To get us in the mood, some blue sky. Aaah, that’s nice.

And now I will share some other blues that made me smile this summer.

Invitation for A Week of Flowers 2024

BERJAYA

This will be the fifth year of my ‘A Week of Flowers‘ – my way of spreading colour and cheer just when we need it most as grey November merges into dark December. And I am inviting all my blogging friends to join me!

In 2024 I will start with Day One on Saturday 30th November, finishing with Day Seven on Friday 6th December. The idea is to post a bright and cheerful photo of something you grew this year (or even a few photos – I do tend to get carried away!), either each day of that week or simply when you can. Then leave a link in the comments under my post for that day, so everyone can find your flowers.

I hope to see you on Saturday!

In a Vase on Monday: November Beauty

I look forward to my lovely Chrysanthemum ‘Anastasia’ blooming at the end of the garden season and was a little worried she wouldn’t make it this year… we had such a cool autumn and a very chilly and damp start to November, with little sunshine. But despite rain, snow and frosts she is finally in flower!

BERJAYA

I have given her a vase to herself, partly because she deserves it, but also because there is little to pick at the moment. I shall be ‘stretching’ my vase material over the next few weeks I suspect, although I do already have a Hellebore in flower.

BERJAYA

Anastasia is a hardy Chrysanthemum with small pompom type flowers. I think she looks stunning considering the weather we have had!

Many thanks to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for?regularly hosting this weekly meme. She also kindly organized a virtual meeting of a group of vase appreciators/creators last night and it was lovely to hear what has been giving other gardeners pleasure in their gardens this year. We also learned a lot about the National Garden Scheme in England; there is no equivalent here in southern Germany – in fact gardens open to the public are few and far between.

However, if you would like a virtual look at what grows in this part of the world, my annual ‘A Week of Flowers‘ will begin on this coming Saturday… more information on that in my intro post tomorrow. So in the meantime, have a great day everyone!

In a Vase on Monday: Eleven Years!

It has now been eleven years since Cathy at Rambling in the Garden decided to post a vase of flowers from her garden and invite other bloggers from around the world to join her. And they did, growing into a lovely little well-rooted community of avid gardeners. Friendships have blossomed, seeds have been exchanged, and for those not near enough to meet in person there have even been zoom get-togethers of vase makers. In all those years (is it really eleven?!) Cathy has never let us down and has hosted this meme regularly, including a ‘prop’ and often a witty title to boot.

So, first of all a big congratulations to Cathy, and a huge thank you! 🤗

In the depths of winter in particular, this meme has been an inspiration and has kept my own blog going while the garden hibernates. There is always something to find out there, even if it is simply a mossy twig or a dried seedhead.

To celebrate this special anniversary, we have been given the challenge to use the theme eleven for our vases today. Hmmmm…. tricky in November, but this is what I have come up with…

Eleven hoorays for Cathy’s In a Vase on Monday meme

1. Searching the garden for suitable materials has opened my eyes to the times of year when there are gaps. I have tried to fill those gaps.

BERJAYA

2. Looking for flowers or grasses that do well in vases has also meant experimenting and trying out new plants that might otherwise have been disdained. (e.g. Zinnias! 😉)

BERJAYA

3. Arranging and photographing flowers has a relaxing and therapeutic effect on me and is a pleasant way to spend an hour or so every week.

BERJAYA

4. This meme encourages me to be creative and think out of the box sometimes. Good exercise for the little grey cells.

BERJAYA

5. Having flowers or some other kind of garden material in an arrangement in the house – usually on my dining table – is uplifting.

BERJAYA

6. Other vases shared by fellow bloggers are simply fabulous to see – I am constantly learning about new plants from other parts of the world as well as getting an insight into gardening in other climates. And the beauty in their vases is inspiring.

BERJAYA

7. So many lovely blogging connections and friendships have developed from sharing our vases. ❣️

BERJAYA

8. Mondays used to be the day for catching up after the weekend and doing mundane chores. Now they are brightened by colourful flowers.

BERJAYA

9. It’s quite simply a lot of fun! 😁

BERJAYA

10. It is an excellent excuse for expanding my collection of vases.

BERJAYA

11. It forces me to go out on a damp grey November day to see just what I can find, and to be surprised time and time again and to be incredibly thankful for that. Here is what I found today! (All the other photos above are previous vases made for this meme 🌷.)

BERJAYA

The Geraniums are the real stars, as we have had a few frosts recently and yet there are still a few unspoilt flowers here and there.

BERJAYA

The pink daisy at the front is Chrysanthemum ‘Anastasia’, then the purple ones are Aster ageratoides ‘Ezo Murasaki’.

BERJAYA

I also found some yellow Tansy, pink and purple Salvia viridis, some Persicaria and mixed grasses.

BERJAYA

Many many thanks to Cathy, and to all those who contribute and brighten our Mondays, as well as to those who regularly comment on the vases too. Have a great week! 😘
