Ducks by the Edinburg Mill

The creek that once powered the Edinburg Mill is home to a flock of ducks. People feed them, and in return, they allow us to watch them. Many of them are mallards, and some appear to be domestic ducks or hybrids.

The adult male is known for his iridescent green head, and the female is mottled brown yet pretty.

I love seeing them fly. The final shot looks a little awkward, but I was pleased to capture them in flight using my cell phone so I am including it.

Mural in the Stephens City Walmart

Last week I stopped at the large Walmart near Stephens City and noticed that there is a mural at the entrance where the motorized carts sit.

BERJAYA

The mural shows the drive-in theater, farmland, distant mountains, and the Welcome sign. Here are photos I took a couple of years ago of the Family Drive-in and that sign. The reason there’s a covered wagon on the sign is that the town was once known for constructing good quality wagons.

Seven from Seven Bends

Charlie's post yesterday included photos from Seven Bends State Park. Since we went there three times this week, I have more photos. I narrowed them down to seven to show you.

The park is on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River and it’s very popular during the warm months. I have an annual pass and I make good use of it.

Courageous Charlie

Hi, it's Charlie! I only went to daycare one time this week because I am learning to stay home all by myself. I can manage two hours now without getting real scared. I still get nervous because I worry about my mom.

BERJAYA

I like to have an adventure every day. We went to the dog park twice and that’s fun when someone is there to play with.

On other days we went to the state park. We don’t always park in the same area because I like to try different trails so that I can smell all sorts of animals.

I didn’t try to make friends with this creature. Mom thinks it’s a skink.

We saw rabbits, but they were so fast that mom did not get a clear picture. Here is what I think they look like

There is a river there, but you know what? It’s wet and cold and makes sounds!

Today we went back and I saw a girl walking in the water. so I gave it another try.

As we were leaving, we saw Ranger Tom and he said the river is rising so they have to close that entrance. I was ready to go home and eat dinner anyway.

Odella’s Family Band

This is a snapshot I took decades ago on a visit to my sister-in-law in Bath County, VA. She was left-handed so she would restring the guitar and play it upside-down.

BERJAYA

The picture was originally a color photo but it had faded and taken on a distracting magenta cast. I took a picture of it today using my cell phone and then used the Photos app to sharpen it and convert it to black-and-white.

Springtime at Hogback Mountain Overlook

Shenandoah National Park

BERJAYA

This is one of the longest overlooks on Skyline Drive, and it has spectacular views to the north and west.. I’ve taken pictures here many times.

I am still keeping my posts and comments short because vision in my left eye is still blurry and I get eye strain. Tomorrow will be two weeks since my cataract surgery and I am disappointed that vision is improving so slowly..

Catbird on Board

A gray catbird has been visiting my deck. Sometimes it even stops by for a moment when I am sitting out there.

BERJAYA
Catbirds can make a variety of sounds, including a mewing sound.

My older daughter spotted these great murals and went back and took pictures for me. Thank you, Lynn!

My eyes are feeling strained, so this will be a short post. There are more murals on Sami’s blog hop.
