Gwilym Lee will lead the new series

series titled TOP END BUB over at Prime VIdeo Australia. The series will revisit Lauren (Miranda Tapsell), a dynamic Indigenous lawyer ticking off life goals in Adelaide, and her baker husband Ned (Gwilym Lee), who abandon city life for the Top End (where the outback meets the tropics) to raise Lauren’s recently-orphaned eight-year-old niece. While Lauren and Ned juggle the responsibility of becoming unexpected parents and try to keep their marriage together, Lauren must come to terms with her responsibilities within her culture, as she transforms from an individualist to the linchpin of her family, the synopsis reads. We will also watch Gwily in SAS Rogue Heroes series season two on BBC.

Last month we finally got some updates from Starz for the second season of their epic series THE SERPENT QUEEN  and now we also have the first images from the continuation of the intriguing historical story. The second season is coming later this summer telling the story of Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton) who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest serving rulers in French history. IN THE SECOND SEASON OF THE SERIES

  Bill Milner joins as King Charles IX the oldest son of Catherine de Medici, and the now King of France. Not a boy, but not quite a man, he is anxious to play king and get it right. Minnie Driver is Elizabeth I the infamous Virgin Queen who goes toe-to-toe with Catherine and is a woman of style, wit and experience. Angus Imrie is Henry IV the son of Antoine de Bourbon and Jeanne d’Albret, he appears uncivilized, to the unobservant observer but in reality, he is quite an intellect. Emma McDonald is Rahima who viewers first met in season one and has grown in wit and confidence and now has assumed an important position in Catherine’s life. Stanley Morgan is Anjou the younger brother of King Charles, who is non-conforming and capable of disruptive violence. Philippine Velge is princess Margot Catherine’s eldest daughter, who is her polar opposite. Incredibly charming, liked by all and seeks the truth. Rosalie Craig is Jeanne d’Albret the self-righteous and disapproving wife of Antonie de Bourbon. Isobel Jesper Jones is Edith, a protestant preacher to a group of loyal followers.  Ashley Thomas is Alessandro de Medici a man possessed with great charisma and beauty and is the object of desire. Alexandre Willaume is Montmorency the wise and humorless Constable General of France. He is a loyal and serious servant of the king. Joining Morton in the returning cast are Danny Kirrane, Ray Panthaki, Raza Jaffrey, Enzo Cilenti, Amrita Acharia, Ruby Bentall, Beth Goddard, Ludivine Sagnier, Nicholas Burns, and Rupert Everett.

Hilarious new comedy arrives this May

Netflix has released a poster and trailer for their new family comedy  MOTHER OF THE BRIDE which streams from May 9th starring Brooke Shields, Chad Michael Murray and Benjamin Bratt with Sean Teale and Miranda Cosgrove as the love couple.

  Brooke Shields plays Lana whose daughter Emma (Miranda Cosgrove) returns from abroad and drops a bombshell: she's getting married. In Thailand. In a month! Things only get worse when Lana learns that the man who captured Emma's heart is the son of the man who broke hers years ago. The film was directed by Mark Waters. Channel 5 has announced start date for their new four part thriller series THE CUCKOO which stars Monday April 8th and will air every evening till Thursday. It follows Sian (Jill Halfpenny), a lodger who is taken in by Nick (Lee Ingleby) and Jessica (Claire Goose). They have just bought the house of their dreams, a grand doer-upper in the countryside town that Jessica grew up in. However, as the financial crisis hits the family fall on tough times and suddenly their home is on the line. They are forced to pull their adopted teenage daughter Alice (Freya Hannan-Mills) out of her private school and into the local comprehensive. Nick finds another job, but it’s still not enough to make ends meet. With no other choice, Jessica decides they need to take in Sian as a lodger to help. Sian is beautiful, flirty, and mysterious and immediately begins sowing discord within the family – acting too familiar with Nick, borrowing Jessica’s clothes, and building an increasingly inappropriate rapport with Alice. Jessica begins to question if Sian is really who she claims to be? Quickly she realises something more insidious and twisted is going on and Jessica, Nick and Alice will be forced to fight for each other and their own lives.

BBC and PBS Masterpiece have released first images from the sequel to their classic costume drama WOLF HALL now titled THE MIRROR AND THE LIGHT which has just finished shooting and is set to air sometime later this year, I imagine in Autumn or Winter based on Hilary Mantel's historical novels. 

 

  STORY IS SET IN MAY 1536. 

Anne Boleyn, Henry’s second wife, is dead. As the axe drops, Thomas Cromwell emerges from the bloodbath to continue his climb to power and wealth, while his formidable master, Henry, settles to short-lived happiness with his third queen, Jane Seymour. NBC will adapt the book into series

As Deadline reports Liza Palmer's freshly released book FAMILY RESERVATIONS will be turned into a TV series at NBC.

  The book, which she wrote in early mornings while battling cancer, follows culinary pioneer and world renowned restaurateur Maren Winter, who is nearing retirement. Each of her three daughters is eager to take the reins of running her restaurant empire, the Winter Group. Ruled by her deep insecurities about becoming irrelevant, Maren pits her three daughters against each other, beginning her own dangerous descent into madness and starting the Winter sisters on their journey to freedom. Empire's Ilene Chaiken will produce.

Bolero is already out in France and Belgium

Maurice Ravel titled BOLERO. Doria Tillier, Emmanuelle Devos, Suzanne Clement and Sophie Guillemin also star. Netflix will stream the 1928 set film that looks back at the origins of the Bolero, when it was nothing but a simple command made by choreographer Ida Rubinstein to Maurice Ravel. The latter obeys as if a kind of exercise. But as the composition advances the work takes on a wholly unexpected dimension, reminding the musician of his demons but also the wonders he has worked. The movie has launched in France and Belgium March 6th and will move into other European territories this spring. See the trailer below and tell us what you think:

DIALS MYSTERY in which a healthy young man dies in his sleep, despite the ringing of eight separate alarm clocks. Gerry Wade had proved himself to be a champion sleeper; so the other house guests decided to play a practical joke on him... Eight alarm clocks were set to go off, one after the other, starting at 6.30 a.m. But when morning arrived, one clock was missing and the prank had backfired with tragic consequences. Suzanne Mackie is the show runner and producer with Chris Chibnall penning the script.

If you are looking for something appropriately religious to watch this Easter Sunday, earlier this week, a few days ago, Netflix has released new documentary series TESTAMENT: THE TRUE STORY OF MOSES which is available for streaming as of March 27th. After the success of Alexander: The Making of a God, this is their new high end historical documentary series in the form of a three episode docudrama which mixes live action sequences with the narration from the experts who tell the story of the biblical patriarch who trusted God and led his people out of Israel. Among the contributors are Rachel Adelman of Hebrew College, Pete Enns of Eastern University, Tom Kang of New Story Church, and Andy C. Lewter of Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. 

 

THIS NEW DOCUDRAMA FOLLOWS

 the journey of Moses from outcast and outlaw to deliverer of the Israelites and messenger of God from the banks of the Nile to Mount Sinai to the Red Sea and includes viewpoints of different faith traditions, including traditional, historic Christianity.
