Plans Last Week

  • Quilt the next NICU quilt and bind it.  DoneButterfly NICU quilt.
  • Keep up with the Bonnie Hunter sew along. Week 2 required a Tri Rec ruler, well I’ve never used one and don’t have one, have ordered one and will just have to catch up on this when it arrives perhaps in January.
  • Sort through my tops and see what I might quilt next.  I sorted but didn’t decide yet.
  • Order some batting. Ordered and its arrived today. Wow MSQC is amazing is all I am saying to get it to New Zealand so quickly.
  • Perhaps make another NICU top, to use up some scraps. Made another from pieces of fabric and am quilting it.

As well the December BOM for A Quilting Life came out and I made the last block and put it together for the last NICU quilt of 2023. The hospital I make them for require them to be Space NICU top29 1/2″  by 35″ I never quite get it on point but near enough.

For the Next Wee While

  • finish quilting the present NICU quilt and bind it.
  • Pin and Quilt the Space NICU quilt and even maybe bind it.
  • Start on Week 3 Bonnie Hunter #3 clue when it comes out on Saturday – Friday for the USA!
  • Make a list of things that need to be finished and put them into a month by month plan for 2024.

And Almost the End of November!

Linking up with to Do Tuesday Quilt Schmilt

Well it’s a lot of weeks since I last posted, way back in September. I did do some patchwork and quilting along the way but I stayed clear of my quilting blog because it felt like too much work! But here I am again taking stock of what I’ve down and what I have forgotten about.

I’ve completed a Spring Mystery Quilt I did with Laundry Basket quilts except I did it in Autumn colours.

Laundry Basket Mystery Quilt

I have also finished a NICU quilt and washed it. This was made from some Sewcialites blocks.I’ve also sewn up another one and am ready to quilt it.

Blue NICU quilt

I am up today with my Moda Blockheads blocks, except for the foundation paper piecing two, which I’ll leave out as I no longer have a printer. I don’t mind FPP but too lazy to go to a shop to get a print out. Blockheads 5 '23

I am up to date with the blocks I’ve been doing for the A Quilting Life block of the month and just waiting for the last one – December.AQL BOM '23

I have all my butterfly blocks finished and they are waiting to be sewn into a top.Butterflies

My hearts log cabin quilt top  is finished, I thought I still had blocks to make, its all sewn up into a top!Heart Log Cabin '23

I finished totally my Designer Mystery Quilt – just needs a wash.Designer Mystery Quilt finish

I started just last week on Quiltville Bonnie Hunter’s Indigo Way Mystery sew along.  Except I am not doing it in her colours, but using dark and light green and a sort of purple/wine. It is left overs mostly from Anne of Green Gables fabric I have, although I did have to add to it. Oh well!Indigo Mystery

What’s Next.?

  • Quilt the next NICU quilt and bind it.
  • Keep up with the Bonnie Hunter sew along.
  • Sort through my tops and see what I might quilt next.
  • Order some batting.
  • Perhaps make another NICU top, to use up some scraps.

Linking Up with To Do Tuesday.  Quilt Schmilt

Fallen off the wagon in terms of posting what I have been up to but at present feeling like about every 3 to 4 weeks is about right for me. So this is not a weeks sewing and quilting but about 4 weeks as 22nd of August was the last time I posted.

So lets see how I got on with my list, I have even forgotten what might have been on it!!

Upcoming Plans for Next Few Weeks

  • Work on quilting the Mystery BOM 2022/23.Quilting mystery block Q I have been working on this off and on and I can say most of the pins are out and a good bit of the quilting is done but not there yet.
  • Think about a border for the Sewcialites top. Done and folded away I could hardly remember where I put it! Sewcialites 2 border
  • Add to Winging it and the Halloween blocks.  With Winging It I have finished the blocks and clipped them into rows so they could come off my design wall. I added the castle to the Halloween blocks. Haunted house
  • Continue with any of the scrappy leaders and enders I am currently working on. I did work on these and have now finished all the scrappy heart log cabin blocks and am at present putting them in rows. Hearts row
  • I also started working on a scrappy Star Streams Quilt top from FQS. I’ll just use up fabric left over from other things. Star blocks
  • I want to see about Moda Blockheads 5 which I haven’t done before. I’ll see what is in my stash to do it if possible.  Would I – won’t I? I decided yes in the end and will use some Laundry basket fabric I had sitting there – I have made two blocks – 6 inch finished. I think they have a break over December and then continue in 2024 so I’ll make all those blocks too into one quilt top. Blockheads 1&2
  • Whatever comes to mind! I did bind a couple of blocks, a few years ago I had been making a QAYG but ended up not liking it but had some blocks made so turned them into mats. Two done and a couple to go.Mats
  • I also finished September block from A Quilting Life ’23.Sept bllock AQL

Plans going into October

  • Finish quilting the Mystery Block of the Month 22/23 from FQS.
  • Keep going with the Blockheads blocks as they come out
  • October A Quilting Life BOM
  • See what will be the project I am working on for October. I like this as it’s a challenge to work on something for that month – not necessarily finish it. For example in September it was furthering my scrappy log cabin blocks.
  • Whatever I feel like picking up to keep working on.

What’s in the Plans for August

Well I intended to cover two weeks but it extended to three! I seem to have gone off the boil in all areas, slowing down I think!

The next last three weeks plans were

Work on quilting the dinosaur quilt.  Completed. I had just started to quilt it. Now it is finished, I even got it washed yesterday and aired in front of the fire last night. It is a little gaudy because I just used scraps I had in the cupboard but I hope it’s acceptable to the little guy it’s intended for, my great-great nephew. Dinos finest Rawiri

Sew rows of flannel quilt top together. Cut backing to fit.  Almost completed, just one more session of sewing the binding to the back. This was my first go with using flannel and I love the softness of it. It’s for me! I just cross hatched it to quilt it. I want it soft and cosy. Made from a layer cake.Flannel Quilt finish

Make last two blocks in the FQS Mystery QAL in row 5. Possibly sew rows together. Well yes, three weeks! I did get all the rows together and now just putting a very narrow border around it.

Make July BOM from A Quilting Life. That was just a six and a half inch  block and its completed.July block 23

Plans for the next few weeks.

  1. My focus for August will be to get the FQS Mystery Quilt 2022/23 pinned to the backing and the quilting started. I just may simply cross hatch it. Won’t know till I start!
  2. I have started working on getting the Sewcialites QAL blocks together.  I have used the same fabric for this as the one I used for the mystery QAL.  So I want to get the blocks sewn together.
  3. The August BOM from A Quilting life.
  4. I sort of want to start something new and so I might. I bought the Winging It pattern and I might just get a few blocks or butterflies done.
  5. Make and sew on the binding of the Lori Holt quilt.

Something Finished, Something Started

Plans for next few weeks

Keep quilting the UFO for June. A Lori Holt QAL from a few years back.  I worked on this until I finally got the quilting more or less done. Very roughly in parts but that’s all it’s getting! Lori Holt QALJPG

Continue to work on the dinosaur quilt I was able to get the top together and pin it ready for quilting. I’ve put  minky fabric on the back though which makes it quite heavy to quilt,Dinosaur ready for quilting

Make the June BOM from A Quilting Life 2023  Done.

Possibly get a block or two made of Row five of FQS Designer Mystery BOM 22/23 Done, made three blocks and have two more now to go.

While finishing my June quilting I put the final few stitches in on the Chilhowie where it needed a bit of fixing due to a few huge stitches. So the Chilhowie  by Bonnie Hunter I can now say – Completed.Chilhowie finish I also started a new project. This one is a small throw, made with a layer cake, and in flannel. Autumn Harvest by Bonnie Sullivan. I was going to just sew up the squares and then saw this pattern on You Tube and went with it. Of course it makes it a little smaller but never mind.Flannel blocks

The next two weeks

I am joining in today. I have decided to post every second week as with my book blog that is about as much as I can keep up with.  Otherwise I never seem to find time to either sew or read!

Plans Were

Sew on binding to Chilhowie Quilt

Done, I just need to go back and fix two small things with the quilting where I found a couple of big toe grabbers then it’ll be a wash and a finish.

Sew Row 4 of Mystery Quilt from FQS together.

Well I did put sashing on one side of blocks but still have to join them all. Most of my time went on the next item here.

Some sashing

When the June designated UFO quilt number to work on is known get it out and start working on it.

This turned out to be #6 and was a top I’d made a couple of years ago that was an appliqué one by Lori Holt. I ‘d bundled it away because I realised it wasn’t a usable kind of quilt and I don’t put quilts on walls, but anyway I hate leaving things undone!

So I made a backing for it, and then I sewed some scraps of batting together (wool) for the inside. Next I sandwiched it and started to quilt it. I’ll continue to slowly work away and see how far I get during June with it.

June UFo

Continue working on scrappy blocks.

I made another heart and star, mostly these are leaders and enders and can last as long as I like.

Extra

I had started one of Elizabeth Hartman’s dinosaur quilts and then left it so have picked that up again and made one dinosaur and almost another. It is very scrappy as I have not bought any fabric for it. So in the end hope it’s fairly okay. A little weird maybe colour wise!  I have some things to fix on ones already made as one has back legs that are two light, and some bushes that are all wrong angles. One day!

Dinos

Next steps

  1. Fix Chilhowie and maybe wash and photograph. Weather dependent.
  2. Sew FQS Mystery BOM ’23 row 4 together. Start on blocks for Row 5.
  3. Continue quilting UFO for June
  4. Make a few more dinosaurs.
