The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, Wright, were American aviation pioneers generally credited with inventing, building, and flying the world's first successful motor-operated airplane. The Wright Flyer made the first flight on 17 December 1903.

Today's Sunday Stamps is dedicated to Planes, trains, automobiles. Automobiles are far from being a favourite topic of mine. However, from some reason, every then and now I get a postcard featuring them. Like this one, sent by Eckhard (Germany), through the Postcrossing site:

It is a bit contradictory that it arrived with a railway station stamp on the back, isn't it?

Mysterious Illustration

I got this postcard from a Russian postcrosser. I guess she chose it because of the sheep. But there is no clue about the illustrator or the meaning. Maybe it belongs to a book? I find it very intrigung!

Can You Stick More Stamps, Please?

It is a real pleasure when a postcrosser takes the time of decorating or adding a lot of stamps. This picture shows the back of yesterday's Great Wall postcard. 

One of the stamp arrived bended and half unstuck, but safe anyway.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites appears often on the postcrossers wish lists. I do not collect them specifically, but they land in my mail box from time to time. No wonder, as they refer usually to beautiful and very interesting places (or cultural manifestations). 

Gathering the whole list might be an impossible undertaking. Also, because they add new names to the list every year. However, there are very famous places, like the Great Wall, that should be relatively easy to get on a postcard. I eventually got it!

Fancy a Beer?

I got this postcard through the Postcrossing site. The front shows a Japanese beer named Kirin, so I added it to my Beer album of postcards. 

Apart from the front picture, the back of the postcard is what fascinates me. Such a beautiful collage including tape, rubber stamps, a cutting, wonderful handwriting… One of the Postcrossing gems I get from time to time!

There is even a silvery fish on the shaped stamp!

Lighthouses from Germany

This port lighthouse stood on the head of the north mole, the entrance to the Geeste. In the night from August 17 to 18, 2022, the head of the north mole in Bremerhaven sagged and the lighthouse on it got into an extremely dangerous lopsided position. There was a risk that he would fall over completely, so the structure was completely demolished by the end of 2022. The tower is to be rebuilt true to the original as part of the new construction of the pier.

This is the Kleiner Preuße ('Little Prussian') lighthouse at the harbour in Wremen (North Sea). Actually, it is a replica of the original dismantled in 1930. The sender wrote that people can get married in the lighthouse. 

Lighthouses on Lower Saxony's North Sea coast, including Helgoland, located on Germany's only offshore island. It was constructed during World War II as an anti-aircraft tower, and turned into a lighthouse in 1952.

The stamp was issued on 6 July 2023.

I got this postcard trough the Postcrossing site, sent by Anastasia (Germany). I had not found a lot of information about this tower on the net: only vintage postcards like this one. The sender says it is the symbol of her trekking club. The tower remains a bit intriguing...

One was posted in the USA on 29 July, and the other one was posted in Germany, on 1 August. Both arrived on 10 August.

I have got this postcard twice through the Postcrossing site: from Olaf in Germany, and from Gosia in the Netherlands (in 2021). However, I would not associate the Budweiser brand to any ot those countries, but to the USA.

The first Friday of August, some people celebrate the International Beer Day. I wish you a happy beer if you are among the beer drinkers.
