SAL: Not much to see here!

Hi all, I am afraid that I have not even started my next SAL project as I have been rather busy making Christmas gifts. So all I have to show is what I have been working on recently. Here are some pictures of the Balthazar beetle, a kit produced by the Inspirations Studio. The beetle is designed to make a brooch, but I thought I would make a few more as hanging decorations for my friends.

As you can see, most of the wing cases are complete and all I need to do now is add the legs and underwings. This is a super design and I am sure I will be making more.

So that’s it really, and I know that I will be unable to post in 3 weeks time as it will be Christmas day and I usually stay in Cornwall where there is little (or more likely – no) internet. So even though it is still early, I would like to wish all the members of the SAL a very happy Christmas and New Year and hopefully I will have started my next SAL project by then.

Many thanks for popping in and look forward to catching up in the New Year!

Happy stitching.

SAL 82: Something new….

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. I have been trying to decide what to do for my new project for the SAL – I have decided on the Gawthorpe Needlecase, another kit designed by Jenny Adin-Christie. As you can see…. just like all her kits it uses a lot of different techniques.

BERJAYA

The needlecase was inspired by the Textile Collection at Gawthorpe Hall in Lancashire, amassed by the late Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth (1886-1907) whose family had owned Gawthorpe since the 14th Century. I have had the kit for quite a long time and really love the look of it – but until now have felt a little overwhelmed by all the techniques. However, after completing her bird kits I do feel that I can now do this little needlecase justice.

BERJAYA

So what is inside the box?

BERJAYA

With the Christmas holidays approaching, I hope to be able to make a start on this soon.

Many thanks for popping in and look forward to catching up in three weeks time.

Happy stitching.

SAL 81 – belated happy dance

Hello everyone, and sorry for a late posting. Going back to school has proved more than hectic and I have finished off the week with a rather nasty cold. I completely forgot to post pictures of my finished project. A big apology to Avis for being so tardy!

So here it is, the finished  peacock sewing etui designed by Jenny Adin-Christie.

And here he is with his tail feathers….

So all I have to do now is choose my next project!

Happy stitching everyone.

SAL 80: Three little birds….

Very little sewing has been done in the last three weeks as I have prepared to go back into the classroom. That said I am very close to finishing my peacock sewing etui designed by Jenny Adin-Christie. Here is what it looked like last time you saw it……

BERJAYA

I have now added a needle lace edging to the base of the birds neck line and covered the raw edges of the tweed with a fine metallic ribbon. Sorry about the slightly out of focus picture…

BERJAYA

The legs are custom made by Jenny and these have been stuck into the base of the bird. Here you can see the peacock with the other two little wrens that I have made (also by Jenny Adin-Christie)

BERJAYA

All I need to do now is attach the tail feathers – but completely ran out of time for this post!

Happy stitching everyone.

Wind your neck in!

Where is the summer going – I have already had three weeks of my summer holiday and it is back to work in two weeks time! I am currently trying to finish off some of the WIPS that have been languishing around the house – but I have also managed to make some progress on my peacock sewing etui designed by Jenny Adin-Christie. It may not look like much but I the needle lace neck has taken quite a bit time to complete. So here is where I was up to last time…..

And this is what my little peacock looks like now…..

I think I can see an end in sight for this project and am now looking around for my next SAL piece. I think I know what I am going to do !

Happy stitching.

Bag it up!

Just love this super bag design by MinkiKim. It is such an easy pattern to follow and so easy to adapt. There are also lots of videos on YouTube to help you through any difficult areas. I chose to use epp to use up scraps when making the two bags below. The first bag was for a sea faring friend so I chose blues and anything nautical.

I think this is the front (but she can choose for herself!).

BERJAYA

And here is the back…

BERJAYA

For the second bag I used up scraps from my Milk and Honey fabrics by Riley Blake. (I forgot to take a picture of the back of this one!)

I just have to hope that the recipients love them as much!! I would recommend this pattern to all and I will definitely be making more!

A little bit of padding…SAL 78

Oops, I think I missed a catch-up! So sorry, the last two weeks of school were so hectic and I came down with a miserable cold as well! Most of my time was taken up caring for a little nestling that was found in the school playground so I didn’t have much time to do anything!

Here are some pictures of the little chap….

Right now back to the sewing – I have made a little progress on my peacock etui – and I do mean a little! Here is where we left off last time…..

I have now sewn on a tweed coat for the bottom of the bird… First it needed a lot of pinning…

Then it was over sewn – very roughly. The tweed is liable to fraying, so the stitches are rather large!

The embroidered back piece will go on top of this to hide the stitching.

But before this gets sewn down, I need to needle lace down the neck of the bird which I have just started.

I hope you are all enjoying the summer and temperatures are not too hot where you are.

Happy stitching.

Heart on the sleeve…

Look at this super little pattern by Minki Kim, called the heart pouch. It is part of a trio of pouches of various sizes and this is the smallest of the three. The design is very simple to complete and there are YouTube videos for all you visual learners. The hearts are a great scrap buster too!

As you can see I have made a bulk load of these little pouches (nine in all!) and plan to put them away as a ready supply of little gifts!

Thanks for dropping in.

A mouse in the house…

I fell in love with this little mouse pattern and thought he would make the perfect birthday gift for a little girl I know. To finish him off I made a little tiny tote bag for him to fit into. I do hope he is loved and played with alot!

Thanks for popping in. Happy stitching!

Sweet little rabbits…

I needed to whip up a quick birthday gift and this lovely little pattern just fitted the bill! This is the cross body pouch  by @creamcraftgoods which was released to members of the candy sewing club run by @cloverandviolet. It came together very quickly and was so easy to make. Already got another one on the go!

BERJAYA

The front vinyl pocket allows full view of the lovely fabric beneath.

BERJAYA

There is just enough room to carry all your essentials.

BERJAYA

And a handy back pocket that fits a phone perfectly! You are then all set to go!

Thank you for popping in. Happy sewing!
