
Formed in 2009, the Archive Team (not to be confused with the archive.org Archive-It Team) is a rogue archivist collective dedicated to saving copies of rapidly dying or deleted websites for the sake of history and digital heritage. The group is 100% composed of volunteers and interested parties, and has expanded into a large amount of related projects for saving online and digital history.
History is littered with hundreds of conflicts over the future of a community, group, location or business that were "resolved" when one of the parties stepped ahead and destroyed what was there. With the original point of contention destroyed, the debates would fall to the wayside. Archive Team believes that by duplicated condemned data, the conversation and debate can continue, as well as the richness and insight gained by keeping the materials. Our projects have ranged in size from a single volunteer downloading the data to a small-but-critical site, to over 100 volunteers stepping forward to acquire terabytes of user-created data to save for future generations.
The main site for Archive Team is at archiveteam.org and contains up to the date information on various projects, manifestos, plans and walkthroughs.
This collection contains the output of many Archive Team projects, both ongoing and completed. Thanks to the generous providing of disk space by the Internet Archive, multi-terabyte datasets can be made available, as well as in use by the Wayback Machine, providing a path back to lost websites and work.
Our collection has grown to the point of having sub-collections for the type of data we acquire. If you are seeking to browse the contents of these collections, the Wayback Machine is the best first stop. Otherwise, you are free to dig into the stacks to see what you may find.
The Archive Team Panic Downloads are full pulldowns of currently extant websites, meant to serve as emergency backups for needed sites that are in danger of closing, or which will be missed dearly if suddenly lost due to hard drive crashes or server failures.

ReplyDeleteNow that's a hard question. In general I enjoy soft cookies over hard and snappy. I've been known to under bake...don't tell! I'm due to bake today...I hope I have everything I need.

Interesting... you mention that you're not normally a fan of red but this year you are drawn to it. Me too! How's that for interesting! Do you ever wonder if there's 'something' in the air when stuff like that happens. I'm never surprised at learning the Lord leading different people in similar ways...after all, it's the same Spirit... mmmmm... maybe he likes red this year?

ReplyDeleteI over baked two pans of gingerbread men and they were hard, but I'm telling you if we would have called them gingerbread men biscotti they would have been perfect, ha! Dipped in coffee they were delicious! As a whole though we go for soft around here. As in barely baked for the kids. I bet you are making wonderful gifts with your sewing machine!

I like my ginger cookies snappy - Don likes them snappy too so we get along that way (oh and many other ways too LOL) I'm getting ready for some holiday baking - Russian teacakes, thumbprint cookies with homemade jam, German Stollen (yeast bread with candied fruit and nuts), Spritz cookies, cutout cookies and maybe some toffee cookies - we'll see how it goes. I got the cutest little foil pans with cut christmas covers for our cookies that go to friends this year. Oh I love the happy season.

ReplyDeleteAs for ginger cookies, I fall into the soft camp. However, I'm the only one in my family that likes them in any form so they are rarely made.

ReplyDeleteAs for other cookies, family lore has it that when my older brother was little that he liked to stuff my mother's ginger snaps in his pockets and that they could stay in one piece when he played ball with his friends.
I prefer ginger ccokies crisp and molasses cookies soft. I have done no baking.

ReplyDeleteSoft! Great post! I haven't baked anything yet. But I will make some Yankee Doodle Dandies Friday or Saturday. They are my son's favorite Christmas candy and I'm going to see him on Sunday..... I'll give him a small amount to get him through til Christmas! It's chocolate and salted peanuts on chow mein noodles!

ReplyDeleteThe shortbread cookies look delicious. But nowadays, I just skip the sewing and the baking and go straight to the reading. We used to bake a lot when I was younger and had kids and even when the grandkids were little. We have to cut back on sugar and carbs now plus it's hot here in Florida. We find other pleasures in life!
ReplyDeleteI made ginger snaps yesterday and they are definitely on the crunchy side. I had trouble with the recipe which is surprising as I've been making them for years. Your shortbread looks mouthwatering. good luck finishing up your sewing projects!

I have not figure out my ginger snaps yet! Sometimes the same recipe can be chewy and sometimes snappy. Does one minute of baking make the difference? I think I prefer them on the chewy side.
