The Festival of Lights
Hanukkah started on Sunday evening
and continues all this week.
Every year, I have to double-check
how to spell the name of this holiday.
Every single year.
Maybe this kid has the right idea --
Her Royal Highness the Cat
always laughs at me because
she knows how it's really spelled!
Happy Hanukkah / Hanukkat
to all who celebrate!

Light the Menorah!
I'm not Jewish.
My sister's not Jewish.
But that didn't stop her from sending me
this ultra-cute greeting card!
Happy Hanukkah to everyone who is
celebrating the Festival of Lights
which begins this evening at sunset!

Whaddya Mean, It's Spelled HanukKAH?
Hello, everyone, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS THE CAT here once again, selflessly gracing you with my wonderful presence!
But enough about me. I DO have a purpose in being here.
I just popped by to commandeer my human's blog so that I can wish HAPPY HANUKKAT to all my feline friends of the Jewish purr-suasion.

And cats everywhere will be having fun playing with their DREIDEL CAT TOYS!
Plus enjoying all the SPECIAL FOODS and YUMMY TREATS of the holiday!

Fugly Holiday Sweaters, Part 1
EVERYONE wants to throw a Fugly Holiday Sweater Party and I'm no different! But mine is going to be a virtual party -- much less work and expense that way, LOL! So let's see what partygoers are wearing, shall we?
Here's someone in an EVER-POPULAR copulating reindeers sweater! Oooo, it's the rare "threesome" edition too. Nice.
There's only ONE sweater CLASSIER than that --
I see there's some GAME OF THRONES fans here today --
The local neighbourhood CAT LADY is here as well -- although she wears this sweater EVERY day. And I want one too.
Let's get serious for a minute now, boys and girls. Don't forget the REASON FOR THE SEASON!
NO, OF COURSE I really meant the Birthday Boy! Although he looks kinda GRUMPY, doesn't he?
JEEZ Jeez, cheer up, willya? It's all DOWNHILL from here, buddy, so better enjoy things while you can. And hey, Holy Spirit, nice scarf!
YAY, my Jewish pals are here at the party too! They're busy celebrating HANUKKAH right now --
OY, I could use a G & T too!
Finally, let's give the last word to the guy from the MIXED marriage --
Be sure to tune in tomorrow for PART 2 of the party, when TEH GAYS finally deign to show up fashionably LATE, as always.

Happy Thanksgivukkah!
I'm sure everyone's heard by now of today's once-in-a-lifetime convergence of American Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah. I think it's great because both holidays are fundamentally about freedom and gratitude. So to celebrate, here's a few of my fave Thanksgivukkah images from the internet. Enjoy, everyone!

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah and the lighting of the first candle. I've always loved the beautiful symbolism of the Festival of Lights. The sacred eternal flame of the Temple in Jerusalem did not flicker out, as it should have done for lack of oil, but miraculously burned for eight days until more consecrated oil could be prepared.
Similarly, the sacred flame within ourselves is not easily extinguished. May everyone's special inner light burn brightly and help illuminate the world!

Hanukkah Lights

Last night was the first night of Hanukkah. Here in Edmonton there is a huge outdoor menorah on the grounds of the Alberta Legislature. So last night, local dignitaries (premier, mayor, etc.) and members of the Jewish community braved the incredible cold and assembled to light the first (electric) candle. Like all midwinter festivals of light, Hanukkah is about light in the midst of darkness and hope in the midst of despair. Be it so!
