The Centrality of Empathy
If someone has empathy, they can overcome
their prejudice and hatred based on ignorance
by unlearning it and adopting new views --
However, you cannot do this if you lack
the necessary empathy in the first place.
It's why the very concept of empathy is
always attacked by the extremist right --

Checking In With Captain America
Four years ago in 2016,
when Trump was elected President,
my shocked and appalled post at that time
explored how Captain America felt
about the whole situation --
So how is Captain America feeling now?
In fact, he's downright giddy
that Trump is "one and done" --
And don't you agree THIS
would be a great idea?
But is that really necessary?
If you saw the last Avengers movie, Endgame,
you might have thought to yourself:
"Damn, Old Man Steve looks familiar . . .".
Congratulations on winning the United States Presidential Election to Avengers: Endgame star Joe Biden!
AHA! I KNEW IT!

It's Federal Election Day in Canada!
Well, today I have to go and vote for one of these numbnuts
to be the next Prime Minister of Canada.
And despite the endless media coverage
since the election was called,
no one has been able to tell me the
most important political information of all . . . .
It's hard not to be cynical about politicians
and the political process these days . . . .
For example, we believed in Justin Trudeau's
"sunny ways" last time and
where the hell did that get us?
"sunny ways" last time and
where the hell did that get us?
WTF, we'd probably be better off if
cats themselves actually did go into politics.
How much worse could they be?
A cat did run in Canada's last federal election.
I knew I should have voted for him!
Oh, Earl Grey, you magnificent furball,
where are you in 2019 now that
your country needs you even more?
A FINAL NOTE --
IF I HEAR THE MEDIA USE THE PHRASE
"VOTE-RICH ONTARIO"
"VOTE-RICH ONTARIO"
ONE MORE TIME,
IMMA GONNA HURL!
IMMA GONNA HURL!

International Human Rights Day
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed on December 10, 1948, which is why today is always marked as International Human Rights Day. This year's anniversary is even more noteworthy by being the Declaration's 70th year. Signed shortly after the end of World War II and the creation of the United Nations, the Declaration was born out of the deep desire to never again repeat the appalling horrors of Nazi Germany.
Protecting and advancing human rights is even more important now that far-right nationalism, racism, bigotry and propaganda are on the rise again in most of our western democracies, seeking and winning handholds on power.
We must not be taken in and we must not repeat the past!
So more than ever, it's important for all of us to . . .

Postscript
I just had to add this P.S. to my last post "Farewell, President Obama" because it's TOO friggin' funny!
Oh Captain America, you crazy patriot.

Farewell, President Obama
In my opinion, Barack Obama is a true example of all that is good and worthy about the United States. He is intelligent, principled and a class act. I admire him tremendously.
History will judge him well, I believe. And it will also be appalled by the unprecedented level of hideous personal and institutional racism that was directed at him during his administration by some Americans and the Republican Party.
It will be a while before America sees his like again.
