August Blue Moon Altar: Diana
A second full moon in August makes this date a rare Blue Moon! So my full moon altar honours the Roman goddess of the moon, Diana, as well as the Moon itself. And it's a "busy" altar!
Two white taper candles represent the two full moons which constitute a Blue Moon month. At their base is the appropriate card from my Moon Magic Oracle Cards deck.
Also on the altar are two marble Triple Goddess Moon symbols, one black, one white. Between them is a Goddess Diana stone which I got a few years ago at the Sacred Garden in Maui. To the left and right are representations of rabbits, a popular moon veneration symbol in Asian mythology. The little statuette is known as a Moon Gazing Hare and was sculpted out of clay by a Winnipeg artist about 30 years ago, based on ancient Asian art.
Here's a closeup of the Goddess Diana stone --
The round beaded silver altar cloth represents the glory and beauty of every full moon. Arranged around its perimeter are all the moon phase cards from the Moon Magic Oracle Cards deck.
Be sure to make a special wish today and harness the full power of the Blue Moon -- may your wish come true!

Friday Face OFF -- Elder From Nepal
For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Here's an Elder from Nepal
which was done freehand using
HB, 2B, 4B and 6B graphite pencils.
His hat is okay, but the folds and fabric textures
of his clothes are pretty poorly rendered,
so clearly I need more practice in that!
I'm happy with his wrinkled and weather-beaten face, though.
He probably spent a lot of his life outdoors in the elements.
Are you concerned about wrinkles as you age?
If you are, just remember the old saying --
"A face without wrinkles
is like a book without words."

Friends Fur Life Blogathon
I love a good blogathon
every once in a while,
and this one should be fun!
On October 27-29, posts by participating bloggers
will celebrate their favourite movie/TV onscreen critters
who are pets, friends or companions to us humans.
If this sounds like your cup of tea,
full rules and signup sheets are available at
Hamlette's Soliloquy and The Midnite Drive-In blogs.
I've already signed up to do TWO posts --
(1) Alligator Loki from
the 2021 Disney+ series Loki, and
(2) Rocket Raccoon from the
MCU's Guardians of the Galaxy movies.
STOP ME BEFORE I SIGN UP FOR MORE!
Maybe I'll see some of you
at the blogathon too?

Friday Face OFF -- Koala Bear
For this week's Friday Face OFF link party
of art featuring faces, hosted by Nicole of
DVArtist, Art, Food, Gardening blog . . .
Here's a koala bear
done in pen and ink.
Now, if this koala bear
looks familiar to you . . .
It's because I posted it before
when I did the same piece
in a coloured pencils class
taught by the same teacher!
Despite their being cute as hell,
I've read that in real life
koalas are apparently
bad-tempered little bastards
who smell like menthol cough candies
due to their steady diet of eucalyptus leaves.
Can any of you verify that
from your own experience
of this animal?
