Ruby Red Tuesday and Wildflower Wednesday May 22 and 23 2012
Although it is called a pesky weed by some,
the Thistle is an emblem of Scotland
and the favorite food of Eeyore
(In the Winnie the Pooh stories by A. A. Milne).
Have a wonderful day!

Foliage Follow-Up May 2012
Canna Lilies
Actually, Canna Lilies are not lilies at all. They are cousins to the Bananas and Gingers.
These grow very tall, and they will have reddish-orange blooms later in the summer
Looking straight down at the spiraling lines make me feel slightly dizzy.
Much better to look at the leaves from the side!
These are planted on a north-facing slope in part shade,
so the sun sometimes highlights individual leaves.
If anyone knows which Canna this is, please let me know.

Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day May 2012
What's blooming in Mississippi Zone 7
Day Lily - I've had these so long I don't remember which variety they are.
The Hydrangeas are just beginning to show their blue color.
In a few more days they will be a pretty medium blue.
In a few more days they will be a pretty medium blue.
Dianthus, Sweet William, comes in many colors. This red/pink is one of my favorites.
Coreopsis, also known as Tick Seed, can spread so fast that it may be considerd invasive.
Here it is trying to crowd out the Dianthus.

Butterfly Bush, Nanho Purple, is budding. Soon it will be in full bloom!
Coral Honeysuckle attracts Hummingbirds.
Evening Primrose blooms at sunset and closes at mid-morning the next day.
