Saturday Morning

Last night I slept for 10 (TEN!!) hours, in which I had three very vivid dreams that took place in parking garages, one of them in Zurich. I wonder what was going on with me?! In one of the dreams, I was a man with a wife and a son. Try figuring that one out... I always joke that the many dreams I have every night are my own personal movie theater - and never a scary dream in the bunch!
BERJAYA
I probably would have slept even longer, if Daniel hadn't woken me up with: "Do you want to go to the cafe for breakfast?"
BERJAYA
There's never a question which cafe he's talking about. Gallery Espresso, our favorite hangout in Savannah!
BERJAYA
And breakfast doesn't just mean excellent coffee (a double latte for me!) and good eats, but it means spending a good long time relaxing, reading, looking at art and people watching.
BERJAYA
It's probably good that we don't live right in Savannah or I might just move into this place!
BERJAYA
Wishing all of you a good Saturday morning. And to those of you in the path of Hurricane Irene, I am thinking of you and keeping my fingers crossed that you are all safe!

Coffee Break

BERJAYAWhenever we have time and are in town, we love to go to Gallery Espresso to hang out for a little while. Last week, on the way there, we walked through Madison Square and took yet another photo as I am always struck by how beautiful it is.
BERJAYAAt the cafe, we sat outside and watched this patient bicycle taxi driver wait for customers,
BERJAYAand this one giving his passengers a little bit of information about Savannah.
BERJAYASeveral tour buses came by with very attentive tourists on board.
BERJAYAAnd all of that while we were enjoying an excellent cup of coffee
BERJAYAand sharing a most delicious brownie!
BERJAYAIt was a happy coffee break!
BERJAYADaniel and I are leaving on a road trip this Friday, so I am going to spend my week getting our gear together (we'll be camping part of the time), getting our house ready for our house sitter, who will stay with Winslow and Ramses, and being creative in my spare time! It'll be a busy week!

I hope your week is off to a good start and look forward to visiting your blogs! Thank you for continuing to visit mine!!

Savannah and New Projects

Yesterday morning was simply beautiful (the afternoon turned out a bit stormy) and we decided it was a good time for an outing to historic downtown Savannah. We packed Winslow in the car and off we drove...
BERJAYAWe wanted to see what was blooming already. Downtown Savannah is always a little ahead of us who are living closer to the coast. We found wisteria,
BERJAYAlady banks roses,
BERJAYAand a pretty little rock garden.
BERJAYASavannah is filled with gorgeous squares, perfect to sit and look around, to read or to eat your lunch,
BERJAYAbeautiful garden or passage gates,
BERJAYAweathered doors,
BERJAYAwell-cared for house fronts,
BERJAYAromantic historic homes framed by majestic live oaks,
BERJAYAand carriages pulled by grand looking horses.
BERJAYAOur ultimate destination yesterday was Forsythe Park.
BERJAYAI wanted to get a look at the new concert space and cafe, housed in the newly renovated fort. It'll be a perfect place for outdoor concerts!
BERJAYAIn Forsythe Park, a few azaleas were already blooming,
BERJAYA
BERJAYAas well as this little shamrock,
BERJAYAa beautiful pink bush I don't know by name,
BERJAYAornamental cherry trees,
BERJAYA
BERJAYAand redbud trees.
BERJAYAThe park was filled with families with children, people walking their dogs, or some just sitting on a bench,
BERJAYAor lounging on the grass.
BERJAYAWinslow thought it was time to visit the new cafe. We sat outside, chatted with numerous people and knew instantly that this will be one of our new favorite places to visit...
BERJAYAOk, change of subject! Look at those books I got at our public library the other day.
BERJAYANow, I am waiting for some of this
BERJAYAand some of this to arrive and I foresee hours of fun new projects!
BERJAYASome people like to focus on one thing only forevermore. I need variety, even in my creative endeavors. How about you?!

But don't worry, I'm still painting, knitting, crocheting, cooking, and baking. There's time for a little bit of everything...

A Morning in Savannah

BERJAYAYesterday, we both needed some art supplies, so we decided to make a morning of it starting with a coffee (and our books) at our favorite cafe in Savannah. I was so glad I had taken the camera with me. The grand live oak trees are so magnificent and beckon me every time to take their picture.
BERJAYAI loved the assortment of glass bottles and containers inside the cafe. The photo is slightly out of focus, but I still liked the way it looked. (Click on any of the photos to see them larger.)
BERJAYA
BERJAYAI saw this little soda dispenser at a new antique mall we discovered.
BERJAYAOn the way back to the car, Daniel thought we should take a look at a new hotel that opened right on the river with a rooftop bar. What a place and just look at that view! We'll definitely go there one evening when the weather is a little cooler.
BERJAYAI loved the driftwood sculptures that were actually lights (I think).
BERJAYAAnd the chandeliers were all made from oyster shells - usually I don't like that too much, but in that setting they looked really modern and the design was great!
BERJAYAThanks for strolling along with us! Tomorrow, I'll have some more stunning photos Daniel took in our garden today. Plus, I am working on some more art and will have something to show soon!!

Wishing you all a great start into the new week!

City Brights

Bright Week, hosted by Concrete and Honey, continues, and today I want to show you a couple of photos I took in town lately.
BERJAYADaniel and I and Winslow, our dog, sat outside right by this window at our favorite café in Savannah and drank a cup of coffee (not Winslow, of course - he doesn't need anything to make him more hyper). If I had taken a picture in the other direction, you would be seeing a gorgeous park with grand live oaks and flowering azaleas. Actually, if you look closely, you can see an oak reflected in the window. Such a beautiful spot!

BERJAYAThis picture I took sitting outside at a wonderful bakery, looking across the street. They make the best bread and cupcakes! Daniel and I had breakfast there last Saturday before heading over to the big library book sale. What can be better than coffee, pastries and books?!
