Michael P. Huseby
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Michael P. Huseby serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Previously, he served as Executive Chairman of Barnes & Noble Education. Prior to joining the Company, he was a member of the board of directors of Barnes & Noble, Inc. from January 2014 and served as the Chief Executive Officer of Barnes & Noble until August 2, 2015. Mr. Huseby was appointed Chief Executive Officer of NOOK Media LLC and President of Barnes & Noble in July 2013, and Chief Financial Officer of Barnes & Noble in March 2012. From 2004 to 2011, Mr. Huseby served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cablevision Systems Corporation, a leading telecommunications and media company, which was acquired by the Altice Group in June 2016. He served on the Cablevision Systems Corporation Board of Directors in 2000 and 2001. Prior to joining Cablevision, Mr. Huseby served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Charter Communications, Inc., a large cable operator in the United States. Mr. Huseby served on the Board of Directors of Charter Communications from May 2013 through May 2016. From 1999 to 2002, Mr. Huseby served as Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, of AT&T Broadband, a provider of cable television services. In addition, Mr. Huseby spent over 20 years at Arthur Andersen, LLP and Andersen Worldwide, S.C., where he held the position of Global Equity Partner.
Thomas D. Donohue
Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
Thomas D. Donohue serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer. In this role he is responsible for overseeing accounting, tax and enterprise risk management, and internal audit. Mr. Donohue also serves as the Company’s treasurer and head of investor relations. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President, Treasurer and Investor Relations for the Company since 2015. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble Education, Mr. Donohue served as Treasurer of Barnes & Noble, Inc. since June 2012. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble, he spent 12 years at the Interpublic Group of Companies, a global provider of advertising and marketing services, where he served as Vice President, Assistant Treasurer, International. He graduated from Loyola University in Maryland and received his MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
Kanuj Malhotra
Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and President, Digital Student Solutions
Kanuj Malhotra serves as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and President, Digital Student Solutions. Prior to this role, Mr. Malhotra was Chief Financial Officer of NOOK Media since July 2013 after he joined Barnes & Noble as Vice President of Corporate Development in May 2012. Prior to joining the Barnes & Noble Inc., Mr. Malhotra was Vice President and Finance Head for Kaplan Test Prep, a division of The Washington Post Company, from 2011 to 2012. At Kaplan, he led a business transformation from physical test centers to a digital online learning platform. From 2008 to 2010, Mr. Malhotra was Chief Financial Officer of Sloane Square Partners LLC. Between 2005 and 2007, he was the Chief Financial Officer for the International Division of the Cendant Marketing Group and Affinion International, which was divested by Cendant Corporation to Apollo Management. Mr. Malhotra began his career in Mergers and Acquisitions at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Malhotra earned his MBA in Finance and his BA in Economics from New York University, and currently serves on the Alumni Council at the Stern School of Business at New York University.
Michael C. Miller
Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary
Michael C. Miller serves as Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary. In this role, Mr. Miller oversees all legal and compliance matters, including corporate, litigation, privacy, labor and employment matters and strategic transactions, as well as the Company’s corporate strategy, corporate communications, public and government affairs program and initiatives. As Corporate Secretary, Mr. Miller is responsible for providing guidance to the company and its Board of Directors on corporate governance and Securities and Exchange Commission matters, including public disclosures. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble Education, Mr. Miller served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Monster Worldwide, parent company of global career management website Monster.com. He has also served in various senior legal capacities at Motorola and at Symbol Technologies, and was previously associated with Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP and Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts in New York earlier in his career. Michael earned his Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law, where he served as Associate Editor of the Hofstra Law Review, an MBA from Long Island University—C.W. Post, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of the Holy Cross.
Jonathan Shar
Executive Vice President, Retail and Client Solutions
Jonathan Shar serves as Executive Vice President, Retail and Client Solutions. In this role, Mr. Shar has overall responsibility for the growth and profitability of the Company’s Retail segment, including the development and implementation of client-focused solutions that deliver innovation and increased value to the higher education marketplace. Previously, Mr. Shar served as Senior Vice President, Revenue and Product Development for the Company. Prior to joining BNED in 2018, Mr. Shar was Chief Marketing Officer at Akademos, Inc., a disruptive and growing e-commerce and digital marketing company that provides online bookstore services. He previously was the General Manager of NOOK Digital Content at Barnes & Noble, Inc. where he oversaw business development, product development and marketing for the Global NOOK Newsstand, NOOK Video and NOOK Apps digital businesses. Prior to his nearly five years with NOOK, he served as Senior Vice President and General Manager at CNNMoney, responsible for the CNNMoney website and mobile franchise. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Consumer Marketing at Sports Illustrated Group and Director of Consumer Marketing for FORTUNE Magazine Group. Mr. Shar received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tufts University and has an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Stephen Culver
Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer
Stephen Culver serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer and oversees the company’s IT operations and strategic development. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble College in 2005, Stephen held leadership positions in both the private and public sectors. He owned and presided over an IT consulting company, which specialized in the retail and wholesale industries. As CIO of Giorgio Armani Corporation, he led the IT operations during the development and expansion of their North American operations.
David Henderson
President, MBS Textbook Exchange
David Henderson serves as President, MBS Textbook Exchange. Mr. Henderson has been with MBS for more than 25 years, where he held various sales and marketing roles before being named President in 2017. Prior to joining MBS in 1993, Mr. Henderson served as Vice President of Sales at First Financial Management Corporation. He has also held management roles at Toy Distributors and Best Products, Inc. Mr. Henderson is a graduate of the University of Richmond.
Carolyn J. Brown
Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications & Public Affairs
Carolyn J. Brown serves as Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs. Ms. Brown leads Barnes & Noble Education’s communications strategies, and is the Company’s chief spokesperson and liaison to media outlets on key issues related to the Company. She also oversees the Company’s public affairs initiatives. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble Education in 2015, Ms. Brown was with Barnes & Noble, Inc., since 2000 where she served as Vice President of Corporate Communications. She has also held positions at PaineWebber, Inc., and The Dilenschneider Group, a New York City public relations and strategic counseling firm.
JoAnn Magill
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
JoAnn Magill serves as Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Since joining the Company in 2003, Ms. Magill has played an integral role in the development and implementation of policies, practices and programs for thousands of full and part time employees at the Company’s corporate office and its campus bookstores nationwide. In her role as Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Ms. Magill oversees employee relations, recruitment, benefits, payroll and compensation. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble Education, she served as the Vice President of Human Resources at AT&T Broadband Media Services for five years. Ms. Magill also had an extensive 25 year career with Pathmark Supermarkets, where she held a variety of field and corporate leadership roles.
Lisa Malat
President, Barnes & Noble College
Lisa Malat serves as President, Barnes & Noble College and a member of the BNED senior leadership team. In this role, Ms. Malat has overall responsibility for the growth and profitability of Barnes & Noble College, providing strategic direction and operational leadership across the business, which manages physical campus bookstores and e-commerce sites nationwide. Ms. Malat also leads strategy and execution for merchandising, marketing and business development, serving the higher education and K-12 markets. Prior to assuming her role as President, Ms. Malat served as Chief Operating Officer for Barnes & Noble College since 2018. Ms. Malat joined the company in 1996, and has held various senior executive positions including Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining Barnes & Noble College, she held several senior level roles within the Macy’s Inc. organization. Ms. Malat received her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Philip O’Reilly
Senior Vice President, Retail Finance and Tax
Philip O’Reilly serves as Senior Vice President, Retail Finance and Tax. In this role he is responsible for overseeing the finances of the Company’s Retail reporting segment, in addition to all aspects of the income, sales, use and other taxes to which the Company is subject. Mr. O’Reilly previously served as Senior Vice President, Taxes and Enterprise Risk Management. Prior to joining BNED in 2015, he was Vice President, Global Taxes for Barnes & Noble, Inc. since September 2013. He joined Barnes & Noble, Inc., after serving as the Global Head of Tax for MF Global Holdings Inc. for more than five years. Prior to that, Mr. O’Reilly was a partner in the New York office of McDermott, Will & Emery, LLP, where he advised clients on the tax aspects of a wide range of operational structuring, acquisitions, dispositions and reorganizations. Mr. O’Reilly received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, his law degree from the Fordham University School of Law and his masters in taxation from the New York University School of Law.
Seema Paul
Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer
Seema Paul serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer. In this role, Ms. Paul is responsible for preparing and reviewing the Company’s SEC filings, including Forms 10-Q and Form 10-K. She also ensures that financial statements and disclosures are in accordance with US GAAP and in compliance with SEC accounting rules and regulations. She is a strategic leader with proven success in leading teams and resolving highly complex matters. Ms. Paul’s recent background includes working as the Corporate Controller for Covanta Holding Corporation, as well as various senior financial roles with several major companies including Net2Phone, Sybase, Inc. and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Ms. Paul is a CPA, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a Master’s Degree in Accounting Information Systems from the University of Maryland.
