Lumn Road / Back Lane Corner

Photobucket

This is a photo of the corner of Lumn road where it meets Stockport Road. It used to be known as Back Lane and the old Back Lane sign is evident on the first photo. I quite liked the "busyness" of this corner. The corner shop was owned by a lovely family called Booth - before that the owners were called Mr and Mrs Hayes. I was sent to this shop on many occasions as a child. I think the place is poorer for the loss of many corner shops which were the cornerstones of the community! The chip shop was called Pearl City. I remember it being known as "Macs" chippy before that and getting chips and gravy from it as a child.

This shows the same corner after the shop had shut down. It has now been made into flats - Although it's cleaner looking I think it's lost a bit of its charm (and the Back Lane sign).
The chip shop is still there. It seems to have been there all my life. It's now called "Happy Family" and very nice it is ,too!
