I am hoping that normal service and daily posting will be back in the next few days. This last week has been extremely difficult for me to devote my time here. Thank you for your patience.

The Beauty Of Matley

I've been busy today and not had time to write up a couple of posts that I'd planned to do, so today it's some pictures that have all been taken around the Matley Lane area. I have never been disappointed with any of the walks I took around here...  it really is a beautiful place to spend time.

Harrop Edge

A quick post today due to hospital and doctors appointments,

 photo 1-HarropEdge.jpg

I've spent many hours on those hills, Harrop Edge is a fine place to walk around and look back upon Werneth Low. Further on Hobson Moor... what lovely walks to be found around there.

The day the mist came

I'm being a bit self indulgent today and showing some pictures I took a while back when Hyde was covered in mist, and all that could been seen was Werneth Low which looked like an island in the sea.

A view of Werneth Low

A view taken across the fields towards Werneth Low. Note the Cenotaph is missing which makes it pre 1921 !!. Also, note the path leading down to the old Isolation Hospital.

The same path now leads down to Alder Community High School.

Summer is Here !!

Below are some beautiful photos of Werneth Low, taken this morning, by my good friend Gee Cross Cartoonist Tony Husband.

It seems that drawing cartoons isn't his only gift !!

View from Zion

Todays photo was taken from upstairs at the old Zion Chapel.

It shows the corner of Osborne Road before the entrance to the Trans Pennine trail was put in. Note the bench on the corner. Most of these resting places have now been removed to dissuade gangs hanging around. A shame really as a lot of people used to use them on their way up from shopping in Hyde.
Redferns building can be seen in the background.

The photo is circa 1982. Hard to believe that is 30 plus years ago !

Many thanks to Jack M for the photograph.
Much appreciated ! :)

Magnificent View !

Here are a couple of photo's sent to us by Karl Barlow with the description below.

"Hi Hydonians,
Here are two pictures I took of Gee Cross Mill in the early eighties.
The view of the tower  in the distance is St Georges church and, I think, James
North's Mill...The black and white photo is of the ladder inside the tower of GX Mill known as a Jacobs Ladder. It led to the hatch that
opened at the top of the tower. I climbed it a few times. There was a water tank up there if I remember and lot of pigeon muck ! What a view from the very top of the tower you could see for miles around!...."

Newton Street

Last week we did a post about Handforths pie shop on Newton Street and one of our readers, Werneth Low, wanted to see a picture of the stretch of Newton Street that she had forgotten about.
David Mills has very kindly sent us the following photo - I hope this is the stretch of road you wanted to see,Werneth Low. If not, it's still a great addition to the site  !

Lovely View number 2

After yesterdays beautiful postcard of Bottoms Hall Wood from 1916,  I thought I would show how Hyde still has many beautiful places in 2012.

This is a view from the top of Apple Street taken on the 12/12/12 by David C. Hulme.
Absolutely breathtaking shot.

Thanks so much for sending it to us, David. I am sure many people will enjoy it ! :)

Market Place

BERJAYA

I changed the picture at the top of the site this week, with this great old view looking along Market Place. Our friend and fellow contributor John Taylor got in touch with us asking if we could try and find the same view but taken in the 1960's, and showing Cables Shoe Shop on the corner. I've had a look at what we've got, checked on Tameside Archives but had no luck..... John as looked on  numerous web sites but as never come up with anything taken from this angle. So if you have one at the back of your draw or in your collection I'd love to be able to show it on here and make John's day
