BACK AGAIN KINDA

Just to let you know I am all healed up now. My rib only hurts if I lay on it a long time and my tooth is gone though I had to wait 3 days enjoying the toothache before getting it pulled (weekend for part of it).  Now the socket has healed and I am no longer eating pudding cups and jello.  Life is good again.

I went to town Thursday for a doctor's appointment and when I got to the stop light I was brought up short. There at the intersection were two children on bikes, maybe 8 and 10 years old.  What brought me up short was that I realized it was the first children I had seen in months. What an unusual but welcome sight. Wow, how do you grandparents do it being separated so long? Here I was excited seeing kids I didn't even know.

I tend to check my stats daily and if I see a hit on a post from long ago I will go to it just to see what I wrote since I have usually forgotten.  I also enjoy reading the comments from years ago.  I am delighted how many people have stayed with me for so many years but I also feel sad when I read comments from people that no longer stop by.  I only hope they quit blogging by choice and not illness.

Sometimes I think I must have phoned in that post and other times I think that is cute enough to repeat. This is one of the repeatables.

Reworked from Dec. 2009

In a recent post I mentioned that I had briefly worked part time for a car dealership. One of the salesmen I worked with was Bucky. He was a good looking, pretty full of himself fellow.

One day, I saw Bucky take a very tall, muscular young man with a military buzz cut to the back lot to look at the many cars in stock. When they came back, Bucky looked strained and quite wild eyed as he took the man to his office. He left him there and stopped by my desk on the way to get some coffee for his customer.

The normally cocky salesman looked quite ruffled. Bucky quietly told me they had been walking down the stairs to the lot when the customer turned to him and asked,"Do you think my being a queer Marine will affect my credit application?"

Bucky was rattled and couldn't understand why the fellow thought it necessary to even bring it up. Knowing Bucky's ego, he probably thought the guy was about to hit on him. I asked how he had answered and he said he mumbled something about how it shouldn't matter. Remember this was way before "don't ask don't tell."

Just then the Marine came out of Bucky's office and asked if he could have cream with his coffee. Bucky said he would get it and left me with the young man so we started talking.

He said he was visiting his parents while on leave but that he was stationed at Camp Lejune, NC.  I told him that I had once been engaged to a Marine lieutenant stationed at Camp Lejune and he asked, "Oh, was he a "career" Marine also?" It was unladylike but I spit coffee all over my desk.  Had I known the young man better I would have told him about the mix up and we could have worked Bucky over.  But those were different times.

I know I should have gotten Bucky aside to tell him that his "queer" Marine was really a "career" Marine but you know, Bucky was such an arrogant little dude that he deserved to squirm. I told him later, long after the marine had left and for a long time he no longer trusted me, but then, that made us even for after all, he was a car salesman.

Ever have an embarrassing misunderstanding over what you thought you heard?

Still a little puny but should be back next week. Nothing serious.
I'll still be around to visit your blogs.
