Year 9 School Involvement

The Year 9 Involvement Program is a part of the School’s extensive co-curricular program. The Program is designed to help students to assimilate into Melbourne High School through meeting students and staff with similar interests, and to enable students to experience the breadth of activities available at the School.

All Year 9 students are required to participate in a minimum of the activities described in this booklet. Activities are grouped in divisions ranked by time commitment; Division A requiring more than Division B, and it more than Division C.

A student’s involvement choice should be seen as a year-long commitment, so care should be taken when making the selection.  Participation in involvement activities is recorded and will count towards the awarding of the Melbourne High School Diploma at the end of Year 12.

Students will be asked to make their selections in their first week of their year 9 academic year. They will be required to choose either:

1 x Division A  +  1 x either Division B or Division C

2 x Division B

1 x Division B  +  2 x Divison C

4 x Division C.

Division A Activities can generally accommodate larger numbers and few, if any, students miss out on selection.  There may, however, be certain pre-requisites.  (For example, Music Ensembles cannot include beginners.)

Division B and C Activities often have a limit on numbers and students might not get their preferred choices.

Please note there are forms to be completed for Army & Air Force Cadets, Rowing and Music. These are included with this transition booklet.
